NBA: Carmelo Anthony ready to take the challenge, 27, 10 in debut with Knicks
Things finally smothered after Carmelo Anthony received his wish and joined the New York Knicks following a whole saga of trade talks and anticipation about where he will finally go. Wednesday night Anthony changed into his No.7 New York jersey and
aimed forward with a new resolution. New York is buzzing with this new hype and Knicks fans are excited about the new addition to the franchise. They are looking forward to the results of this blockbuster trade that involved three teams.
Anthony’s journey from Denver to New York has been much longer than it could have been otherwise. The distance between the two cities is 2625 km and it takes four hours to travel between the two, but the All-Star forward waited way too long to reach
the team he longed to be a part of.
The Denver Nuggets, who have been working on the trade since September 2010, finally sent him to the team where he wanted to be. So Anthony stepped ahead, ready to take the challenge. He went for a short workout along with the new teammates and was
with Chauncey Billups in the starting line-up of their new team. It took such a long time for the player to get used to the idea of him being a part of the Knicks that he said that it’s still like a dream to him. "I felt like I was still coming in just for
a shoot-around on an opposing team. It didn't really sink in yet — the fact that I'm a New York Knick. I feel like I'm still dreaming right now."
Anthony is a guy who has always been up to embracing challenges. He has always faced difficult situations by keeping himself cool and calm. Even when the trade buzz was surrounding him, the player concentrated on his performance and kept improving
himself as a player.
The player entered to give a news conference with a smile on his face. He seemed much more confident with the prospect of a brighter future ahead, both his and that of New York. The player was confident about him and Amar’e Stoudemire in the same team,
just the way STAT had been. The Knicks have not made it to the playoffs since year 2004. When asked about winning a championship this year, the player said that it takes time but also added that the team is now headed towards the right direction. "Is it going
to be an easy transition for me? No. Is it going to be a lot of challenges? Yes. Is there going to be a lot of expectations? Yes," he added. "But I'm willing to accept all of them challenges."
Anthony made his debut as a Knicks at MSG on 23 February, welcomed by his New York fans, loud cheers and flashing lights. The player’s debut was a huge hit as in the very first match; the small forward notched 27 points along with 10 rebounds and helped
the Knicks seal a 114-108 victory against the Milwaukee Bucks. Much more is waiting the 26-year-old ahead now and this orange head band and blue and orange jersey will add to the player’s confidence.
