NBA – Cleveland Cavaliers new look after LeBron James
It is understandable Cleveland detests LeBron James and can’t stand the mere sight of him. The hatred began after King James departed the Cleveland Cavaliers, leaving them with one of the lousiest rosters in the National Basketball Association.
Ex-fans heckled the All-Star player wherever they saw him. Videos of angry Clevelanders surfaced on the internet expressing how they felt relating to his decision to join the Miami Heat. James’s jerseys were burnt, Dan Gilbert owner of the Cavaliers issued an open letter to his fans, calling him a “self-proclaimed King” and a “coward”.
However, no one in their wildest dreams could have thought, the Cavaliers would change their whole uniform look because of LeBron. Once again the Clevelanders have proved that it’s hard for them to get over James, giving him unnecessary attention. Although, if the change of attire is exclusively because of marketing reasons then that probably is one of the smartest decisions the Cleveland Cavaliers have made in a long time.
Cleveland Cavaliers have introduced a relatively simple design compared to the flashy one before. The wine and gold hues that embellished the attire in the 70’s is back, the design consists of big block lettering with simple texture as opposed to the script of the past uniform, which was worn for seven years.
Dan Gilbert took another shot at LeBron saying that the uniform will include the Comic Sans font, in which the notorious open letter to the fans was written.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have insisted on many occasions that they have moved on after James’s departure. However, James seems to re-appear in the news every second day. Recently in an interview with the magazine GQ, he stated Dan never cared about him and he was never really a big fan of his hometown Cleveland.
Austin Carr, former player of the Cavaliers, said they might not have much talent as most of the other franchises but their new wine and gold uniform consists of something striking.
“We were 12 men deep. You knew every night we were going to play 100 percent. Nobody was going to quit”, said Carr taking an indirect shot at James, after revealing the teams new uniform.
Austin was the No.1 draft-pick overall in 1971 by the Cavaliers. He expressed his feelings to the media and said that he was disappointed in the two-time MVP, not because he decided to leave the team but in the manner which he did. By announcing his decision in a prime-time TV special, breaking thousands of hearts.
Cavaliers owners somehow fail to realize that wearing a uniform much like what their ancestors use to wear will not improve their game. As Dan Gilbert boldly stated in his infamous letter, "I personally guarantee that the Cleveland Cavaliers will win an NBA Championship before the self-titled former ‘King’ wins one”.
Dan should consider the fact that his team desperately needs to improve its strength and depth, instead of concentrating on how pretty the players would look on the main court.
A lot is expected from the fans of the Cavaliers in the upcoming regular season, as adrenalin seems to be running through the whole of Cleveland city. The franchise not only has a new look but has acquired some new players along with Bryon Scott as their new head coach.
Byron has a colourful history attached to him, as a basketball player he has won three National Championships titles with the Los Angeles Lakers. He has already coached the New Jersey Nets and New Orleans Hornets.
Anyway, whatever the situation maybe, whether the franchise decided to give the team a new look way before LeBron’s decision or after. The truth is a new era is to begin shortly in the NBA and that is what one should be concentrating on instead of such trivial matters. Let the games begin.
