NBA's Commissioner, David Stern, appreciates newly crowned MVP Derrick Rose: NBA Update
The National Basketball Association's (NBA) Commissioner, David Stern, has appreciated the newly crowned Most Valuable Player (MVP), Derrick Rose, calling him a “whole package.” He stated to the media that Rose is certainly a “role model to all” in the league.
On Wednesday night in Game 2 against the Atlanta Hawks, David Stern presented this year’s MVP award to Chicago Bulls’ Derrick Rose at United Centre in Chicago. For Chicago, the night started with full thrills. Firstly for the superstar, Rose, was crowned the MVP for 2010-11 season and secondly the game ended on a high note as the Bulls defeated the Atlanta Hawks with a comfortable margin 86-73 in their second game of Eastern Conference semi-finals.
The NBA commissioner, Stern, greatly admired Rose’s talent infront of a large audience and said, “He couldn't be better, He's the whole package. He has a family that watched out for him and he made it through difficult times and he's very valuable, not just to the league but to his teammates. ... It's very exciting. He's a very nice, grounded young man and it's a pleasure to have him here.”
The Most Valuable player (MVP) award is certainly a very big prize in NBA. From start of the 2010-11 regular season until the post-season, three players especially LeBron James, Dwight Howard and Derrick Rose were in the limelight. These three were the main candidate for MVP, but best-of-the-best Rose out-did Howard and James and clinched the MVP award in the end.
Grabbing this year’s MVP trophy, Rose expressed his gratitude to all his fans and stated that this award means everything and the trophy is for the people of Chicago.
However, David Stern also mention regarding Rose’ talent and said, “I do know that he is the youngest MVP, that he deserves the award that he's getting tonight. He had a heck of a season, he brought his team with him and he's a great teammate. So you can check it all off. He's a heck of a player and I think if we can keep him healthy, he's going to have some career and there are a lot of other players who would like to not have him get this trophy next year. And that's a wonderful thing because you could probably name four or five of them off the top of your head and that's why this league is doing so well right now.”
Last but not the least, when several reporters asked Stern about Rose’s future role in the league as compared to Bulls’ previous superstar, Michael Jordan, who turned out to be the face of the league across the globe. Stern replied in a very cool manner and said that he is very hopeful for Derrick Rose in future as he certainly will increase the popularity of this great game and also very optimistic for many other NBA players who can also contribute to the same kinds of efforts with their brilliant ball play.
