NBA Draft 2011: What positions should the L.A. Lakers, Memphis Grizzlies, Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks look for?
Team: Los Angeles Lakers
Draft Pick: No first round pick
Recommended Position: Point Guard
Their sweep at the hands of the Dallas Mavericks may have sent some fans into panic mode, but the Los Angeles Lakers are still a Championship worthy side. The roster still features quality players and the team boasts of a good
balance. Without a draft pick in the first round, there isn’t any chance of their problems being addressed on the 23rd of June anyway.
Los Angeles’ main weakness is plain to see. Derek Fisher is way past his prime, and a young, enthusiastic point guard is the need of the hour.
So will they trade for Russell Westbrook with Pau Gasol? Or provide the disillusioned Dwight Howard an escape route out of Orlando? Whatever activity that takes place in the Lakers camp this post season, rest assured the draft
won’t play a major part in it.
Team: Memphis Grizzlies
Draft Pick: No first round pick
Recommended Position: Power Forward
A strong and underrated side, as they have shown in the playoffs, the Memphis Grizzlies are only going to move up. With Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol, they have one of the best big guy duos in the league. The Grizzlies are strong
in the backcourt as well. Rudy g*y (when fit) is a handful for any one and they have a defensive specialist in Tony Allen. To complement them, Mike Conley has developed into a top point guard and O.J. Mayo often comes off the bench to provide big points for
the Grizzlies.
They have rookies and sophomores in the side who will only get better. All their starters are young too - all except Zach Randolph. Memphis’ best player has been around the block for some time now. Although he still has many years
left in him, the Grizzlies should start looking for an understudy as soon as they can.
Team: Miami Heat
Draft Pick: No first round pick
Recommended Position: Point Guard
Somebody, other than Wade, needs to carry the ball in this team. Dwyane Wade and LeBron James are the best players in the league, but they would be even more destructive with a good point guard around to assist them. Mike Bibby
has done a job since coming in but he won’t be around for too long.
Although Joel Anthony and Zydrunas Ilgauskas have filled in this season, Miami Heat could also use a centre. However when you have Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade and LeBron James in your team, you don’t need too much more to win, as they
have shown this year. They won’t be getting too much in the draft this year as they don’t hold a first round pick.
Team: Milwaukee Bucks
Draft Pick: Lottery Pick
Recommended Position: Best available forward
The Milwaukee Bucks need talent, and luckily with a high pick this year they could get some as well. Andrew Bogut is solid at centre; he has been since he came in. Brendon Jennings has also taken great strides already in his short
NBA career and will surely be a star in the years to come.
Apart from that, Milwaukee need players at every position, maybe except shooting guard. They brought in John Salmons this summer and he looks a decent player, although he might not stay with the Bucks in the long run. Future speculation
aside, small forward and power forward are the most pressing concerns for the Bucks at present.
