Iman Shumpert goes to New York; Washington Wizards draft
Chris Singleton - NBA Draft 2011 (Part 8)
No. 17 – Iman Shumpert (G)
New York Knicks
Iman Shumpert is the latest addition into the Knicks’ roster and an outstanding athlete who has tremendous grasp over his game. He shows great skills when getting near the bucket. His aggressive nature makes up for his somewhat
mediocre size. Shumpert’s good defensive skills and wonderful passes are his signature. Not only that, Shumpert is also an amazing rebounder.
However, the most important things lacks somewhat in the rising star: shooting skills. The inconsistency can be dealt with some more effort. Speaking of effort, Shumpert can also make do with some effort regarding his handling,
as well.
He is truly in command of the game. A bit of polishing and Shumpert could be the next leader in town.
No. 18 – Chris Singleton (F)
Washington Wizards
An affective athlete, the 6ft-9in Chris Singleton has a huge wing span. His size assists his sprint on the court well, giving Singleton a nice length. Singleton has the capability of playing and guarding several positions. He is
an outstanding defender who is on his way to becoming a key offensive player. Despite all, Singleton has some odds such as some shooting problem.
Singleton should bring about his length and athletic skills to pot more on the board. Some nourishing to his ball handling skills can also take the Florida State’s champ rookie in a more positive direction. Altogether, Singleton
is the new emerging talent who will prove his mark.
No. 19 – Tobias Harris
(F)
Charlotte Bobcats
One of the youngest players on the draft list, Tobias Harris is a 6ft-8in tall forward who shows a lot of versatility in his game. He has a good hand over the ball and uses the skill further down, forming great passes: his passes
in the mock sessions were quite impressive.
Harris has a strong upper hand over his game, producing quite a lot points near the rim. Harris plays well in the paint, dribbling and paving his way through only to finish off with an outstanding show. His game and his skills,
although undoubtedly commendable, lack somewhat in the defensive part of his play and in the three-pointer area. His inconsistency in the three-pointer shots can be seen as one of his weaknesses. Still, the 19-year old has plenty time to learn and in the long
run, these minor indifferences can be taken care of.
Harris was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks on the draft night.
No. 20 – Donatas Motiejunas
(F/C)
Minnesota Timberwolves
Donatas Motiejunas is an Italian basketball player who was picked in the first round but traded to the Houston Rockets on the draft night. He is a 7-foot tall athlete capable of playing both forward and centre position.
The lofty-Italian has great footwork and runs really well on the court. He has a quick athlete with commendable agility. His agility and mobility work along quite well. The left-handed makes good use of his dribbling against the
big guys. His long size gives him a heads up and so does quite well near the basket with both hands.
One major setback is his inconsistent shooting from the free-throw line. He must bring his long-lefty combination into work and improve his shot blocking, working on improving his defensive skills as well. He only managed to scrape
4.1 rebounds on an average at the Italy Lega. With his height and some more weight, he can turn out to be a useful defender.
