NBA: Highlights from Los Angeles Lakers vs. Dallas Mavericks
Highlights from the game
First quarter
The ball was jumped between (DAL) Wilson Chandler and (LAL) Andrew Bynum. Pau Gasol jumped in to gain possession of the ball for the Lakers. Dirk Nowitzki clinched the first shot as the ace went for a jumper assisted by Jason Kidd. Nowitzki rebound the ball
after Derek Fisher missed a jump shot, appointed at 11:27 on the clock.
Ron Artest clinched a three-pointer assisted by Fisher to go 3-4 at 10 minutes left in the quarter. Gasol’s jump shot gave the Lakers a one-point lead over the Mavericks, 5-4. Mavericks’ defence flickered a little after that as they carried the lead in style
until of course the game took a devastating u-turn. The first quarter saw a series of shots coming from Fisher, Bynum and Lamar Odom.
First quarter produced a 31-23 difference between Lakers and Mavericks.
Second quarter
(DAL) Jason Terry opened the second quarter with a running bank shot to go 25-31 closing on the Lakers. Luke Walton committed a shooting foul that produced a free throw for the Mavericks who were heating in for the predicament. Odom slam dunked from the
floor at that moment to clinch his fourth point followed by another shooting foul by Walton. Jose Juan Barea jumped up to clinch a three pointer at 10 minutes left in halftime that edged Dallas further to the Lakers, 30-33.
The Lakers kept the defence up to go further in scores and kept at fastidious pace the rest of the second quarter. Mavericks hit two straight 3-pointers to go 43-49, near the Lakers. The game fuelled up when Terry had a three pointer shot at 2:55 left in
halftime and Kidd took the lead with a jumper, 50-49.
The Lakers, however, reconciled after that and Bynum slam dunked to take the lead back once again, 51-50, outscoring Dallas. The Lakers outscored the Mavericks by the end of first half, 56-52.
3rd quarter
The Mavericks opened up a less defensive third quarter with a slam dunk by Chandler assisted by Nowitzki. Nowitzki was fouled at the moment along with DeShawn Stevenson. A while later, (DAL) Sasha Pavlovic missed a three pointer attempt for his team. Kobe
Bryant rebound the ball for the Lakers at that moment that Bynum took with a driving layup shot. Fisher’s jump shot gave the Lakers a six point lead over the Mavericks, 60-54.
Kidd made a three-pointer that eased the gap between scores a little, 57-62. Still leading, Bryant made a jumper to score 12 points, while the Lakers flew 66-63, faltering a little against the Mavericks offence. At 5 minutes in final quarter, Pavlovic made
a jump shot that left them just a point shy from balancing the scores with the Lakers, 65-66. Lakers reconciled at that point, but Mavericks posted a three pointer that gave them a one point lead over them, 70-69.
Mavericks did not relinquish after that, taking a 82-73 lead over the Lakers by the end of third quarter.
4th quarter
Steve Blake made a running jump shot to clinch his seven points, Shawn Marion mirrored the same for the Mavericks, 84-75. Nowitzki’s jumper gave the Mavericks an 11 point lead over the Lakers. At 6 minutes left in the buzzer, Terry shot a three pointer to
take a 16 point lead over the Lakers who were stumbling in defence.
Nothing had changed much with just a minute left in game, and the Mavericks were still leading the Lakers with 10 points, 106-96. Bryant clinched a running hook shot with 38.6 seconds in buzzer followed by Gasol being fouled. Derrick Caracter’s layup shot
was the last one coming from the Lakers.
The Mavericks clinched a nine point lead over the Lakers, 109-100.
