NBA: How Tracy McGrady can ensure a future!
Once a scoring champion who was the shining star of whichever team he landed in, now has injury prone written all over his body and is still a free agent although the free-agency ended two weeks ago. He might have had a chance to become one of the greatest players to walk in NBA but now is just a good player. Due to the numerous injuries he has faced over the years it has slowed down the player, hence this year every franchise in NBA is thinking twice before recruiting the 31 year old player.
Experts say if Tracy McGrady wants to have a future in the game he loves to play he must do a list of things to guarantee his future in the NBA. Here is a list of things the striving player needs to make sure he abides by:
Tracy must get an okay from the doctor, because no team will be interested in signing a player that is likely to sit on the bench for most of the time. McGrady under no condition should opt for becoming a starting shooting guard as that could break him down physically and tire him out which could lead to an injury. He needs to be play conventionally so he does not exacerbate his previous injuries
McGrady is a player who is used to being under the spotlight being the most pampered player on his previous teams. Experts say McGrady needs to eagerly accept the fact that he is not what he used to be and take on a small role on the team. The question is will McGrady be able to leave his ego at the door and accept the fact he is not the best anymore and willingly agree to few minutes on the court.
He recently tweeted asking his fans what role will suit for a guy who is 6’8” in the Chicago Bulls.
The seven time NBA All-Star needs to accept a small contract, which is not more than two years, however he has been offered by the Los Angeles Clippers a contract worth $3 million, but for McGrady to accept that will be foolish as he is an aging player and needs to secure his future instead of going into a team which has none.
McGrady recently mentioned on his twitter page that he had several opportunities to play in the Chicago Bulls and this year could be fate; however that could only happen if McGrady accepts a pay-cut as the Chicago might not offer him more than $2 million.
Experts say if Tracy agrees upon these conditions he could very well end up in Chicago Bulls who have told various media outlets that they are interested in him. They insist that, for Tracy to join the Chicago Bulls could be the best thing that has happened to him in years. The Bulls roster consists of star players like Carlos Boozer and Derrick Rose who have formed one of the strongest duos in NBA and basketball pundits predict that Chicago has a strong chance going into the 2011 playoff finals.
What roll could McGrady play in the Chicago Bulls, as their roster is already filled with shooting guards and power forwards?
The Chicago Bulls bench consists of several striving players but no one is as good and experienced as Tracy. He can assist the team when Boozer and Carlos are on the bench to catch breath, he could play for 15 minutes or so since he cannot do much at 40. McGrady is known for his pick-and-roll and in transition he will certainly score some points, which will also keep him from stressing his body.
He is a player who might not be at his best but could certainly solidify Chicago Bulls second unit; his small role could play a pivotal part in the team.
As long as McGrady does not expect to be the starter of the team and agrees upon a small pay cheque and role, the Chicago Bulls will not think twice in signing on to the great player.
