NBA: Latest rumours relating the New York Knicks
The New York Knicks were extremely confident about reeling in LeBron James in this year’s free agency, unfortunately things turned out otherwise for the desperate team. James decided to depart from his hometown team the Cleveland Cavaliers, gravely disappointing his fans and team.
During the free-agency before LeBron’s decision, rumours started circulating about the All-Star player opting for the New Jersey Nets or Chicago Bulls. The Knicks decided to make a desperate attempt and signed on Amare’ Stoudemire thinking he’d be able to persuade James to join the team.
Nevertheless, all the speculations came to an end when King James decided to announce he was going to join the Miami Heat along with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. Leaving the whole of NBA nation in utter shock; the Knicks were devastated not knowing what to do next.
After two months of constant struggling by the Knicks, the team was finding it hard to find a suitable player to play alongside Stoudemire. However, new rumours seem to be surfacing stating the Knicks might finally add an All-Star player prospect to the roster named Carmelo Anthony.
Carmelo was drafted in 2003 the same very year LeBron was, as the third overall pick by the Denver Nuggets. Experts say, if the Knicks are able to land in the young aspiring player to their bench, it will completely revolutionize the teams standing in the league.
Carmelo has been one of the most aspiring players present in the NBA since past seven years; he has taken the Nuggets to the playoffs more times than LeBron or Dwyane have. He has maintained a 24.5 points per game average with 3.0 assists and 7.1 rebounds per game.
Another speculation being made is that New Orleans Hornets star player Chris Paul, who is soon to become a free-agent, is trying to convince his team to transfer him in a sign-and-trade deal. The Hornets, on the other hand, are trying their best keep him; they have recruited point guard Darren Collison from the Indiana Pacers, and Monty Williams as the team’s new head coach.
If the Knicks are able to trade a few players in order to obtain Chris, there is no doubt he'll compliment Amare' Stoudemire. Paul came to the NBA in 2005 and was drafted by the New Orleans Hornets as the fourth pick overall. Standing at only 6 feet, the point guard has created fear in the hearts of his opponents; with his sharp-shooting skills and agility he can get around big players easily making room for himself to score. The 26-year-old has already made his presence in the All-Star team 3-times and won the Rookie of the year Award in 2006. Paul has a 21.0 scoring average with 11.0 assists per game.
As ludicrous as it may sound, experts had been predicting since a long time that San Antonio Spurs is a team that has aging players and Tony is the only player in the team whose form is at the peak and he keeps improving over the years.
The fact that the Spurs have not made any astounding deals this summer, have just decreased the chances for the team to win another title. Therefore, the burden on Parker to aid his team in the upcoming season will be immense. So basketball experts say it would be wise for Tony to join another team to continue his legacy.
The Knicks seem to be a perfect option for the point guard, with Stoudemire's backing him up with his brutal skills as a power forward, and Parkers swiftness and leadership qualities would give an edge to the team they have been longing for years. Moreover, actress wife of Parker, Eva Longoria stated in an interview Tony has always wanted to play for the New York Knicks.
