NBA Lockout concerns Dallas Mavericks star Brian Cardinal: Basketball News
At the Conseco Fieldhouse on 11th October, the NBA Champions Dallas Mavericks are scheduled to begin league’s exhibition games against the host Indiana Pacers. Followed by the NBA exhibition action, the regular season
opener is scheduled on 1st November between the Eastern Conference elite Chicago Bulls and the title holders Mavericks.
Under normal circumstances, this would have been the time when Dallas Mavericks and other teams might have been gearing up for the upcoming season. However, the erratic situation of the NBA Lockout has completely turned the table,
limiting the players from preparing themselves for the forthcoming action.
All the meetings and negotiations so far on the lockout issue have been unproductive and as a result  an agreement on the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is nowhere in picture.
In this uncertain situation, the former Purdue standout Brian Cardinal, who was a part of the 2011 NBA Champion squad Dallas Mavericks, is very concerned on the beginning of the 2011-2012 season.
"I think it's a concern of everyone who wants to play. At the same time, it's part of the process. It's just some of the hoops that we have to jump through. We want to make it a better league for -- most importantly -- the fans,
and at the same time, for the owners and for players. We will see what happens. We will see what shakes out." Brian Cardinal said.
The veteran forward played 56 games for the Mavericks in the 2010-2011 season after he signed a one year contract with the team on 27th September, 2010. He averaged 2.6 points and 1.1 boards in 11 minutes of playing
time per game for Mavericks which is pretty low compared to his current career average. However, it was due to the fact that the Mavs already had bevy of bigs including Dirk Nowitzki, Brendon Haywood and Tyson Chandler. So, the minutes afforded to the veteran
forward were not much.
The 34-year-old Brian has however indicated that he wants to play another year with Mavericks. Even though Cardinal cannot talk about his future plans with the Dallas Mavericks’ owner Mark Cuban at the moment as NBA has restricted
the team’s owners and managers from keeping any kind of contact with the players during lockout, however he did talk about his desire to stay with the Mavericks in the next season while attending Purdue’s season-opening football victory.
"My goal is to play another year, and hopefully, that's in Dallas. It's a crazy business, so we will see where things take us. We're just hopeful there's going to be an NBA season this coming year."
