NBA Lockout not affecting Philadelphia 76ers head coach Doug Collins
In this time of uncertainty when almost all the activities in the league are suspended, Philadelphia 76ers head coach Doug Collins is one man who hasn’t put a brake to his routine matters. Lockout or no lockout, Collins has been
busy carrying out meetings and game film sessions with his staff.
The meetings and movie sessions ended on Friday, as Collins took a weekend break to visit his son, who is an assistant coach with the Duke men’s basketball team. Duke is celebrating a festivity and will return from Durham, N.C.
to join his team members for more work next week.
The league and the players union held two meeting on back to back days starting Wednesday in order to make some progress on an accord on the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. However, still the next season of National Basketball
Association looks in danger. This has however not deterred Collins.
"We're planning our season. We're getting together, we watched a lot of tape, watching a lot of things on film that we want to teach. We put together some practice plans. It was really to get together and start planning our training
camp."
Prior to this, during the off-season Collins enjoyed his time in San Diego and considers this break a soothing and pleasing summer, recompense for all the hard work he had put in Philadelphia during his first season.
Collins has guided the Sixers from the 2010 draft lottery till the 2011 postseason so far. In the playoffs last season, his team lost out to the Miami Heat in the first round 4-1. The rise in fortunes came after the Sixers won
only 27 games in the 09-10 season.
Under Collins coaching the Sixers achieved a decent record (41-41) and grabbed the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference.
According to sources, Collins’ staff has cut down entire Philadelphia season into 90 minutes highlight reels, comprising of both the best and worst performances.
"It was really fun to go back and watch how well our guys were executing and how well they started doing things.” Collins said. “It gives us a great blueprint so that when we get started this year, it's going to be so much different.
I know the guys now. I know the things that were good to us on the floor. I know what we like to do."
However, this time Collins will have to wait for the lockout to end, so he can pass on the suggestions to his players.
