Big-name of the Game- Monta Ellis scored a game-high 36 points to boost the Golden State Warriors to a 117-109 victory over the struggling Sacramento Kings at ARCO Arena in presence of more than 13,000 basketball fans who witnessed the season’s 21st
defeat of the home team.
Reggie Williams scored 24 points, Dorell Wright had 17 and David Lee added 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Warriors in tenth victory of the season. The Warriors could not forget the contribution of Vladimir Radmanovic, who made a buzzer-beating 3-pointer
in regulation and protected the Golden State from what appeared to be yet another defeat. In addition, he contributed 15 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals in a season-high 27 minutes.
“I was a couple of feet behind the 3-point line, but the shot felt good, I was confident,” said Radmanovic.
Beno Udrih scored a career-high 34 points and Carl Landry had 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Kings in the defeat, who have the NBA's worst record (5-21). Tyreke Evans had 15 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists for the Kings in sixth straight defeat.
"It's the same thing that has been happening, we can't finish the game" It is nothing new, but it is heartbreaking. If we don't fix that problem we will continue to take losses," Landry said.
First quarter
In the opening quarter, Warrior got it offensively and played some fabulous shots around the court. Evans missed all five shots in the first quarter and the Kings misfired on 17-of-24 shots and trailed 26-18.
Second quarter
Sacramento got themselves back into the game in the second by controlling every aspect of this one, limiting turnovers, making shots in the second quarter. Still, the Warriors were leading by single point, 49-48 at the halftime.
Despite Ellis missing 8-of-12 shots in the first half, the Warriors shot 52 per cent overall.
Third quarter
The Warriors played sloppy basketball during the third quarter and committed six turnovers that led to numerous easy opportunities for the Kings.
In the third quarter, Sacramento came alive in real manner outscoring the Warriors 36-21 to take an 84-70 lead, heading into the final stanza.
Fourth quarter
Early in the fourth quarter, it appeared to be just another loss for the Warriors as they missed many available shots. However, they began frustrating the Kings on defence and forced 10 turnovers to rally from a 16-point deficit. The Warriors outscored Sacramento
32-18 in the fourth to force overtime.
"What changed the game for us was defence. We made stops and got some layups at the other end. We got on a real hot streak at the end of the game. We needed a road win, we had to get this game," David Lee said.
Overtime
David Lee came right back with a three-point play and Ellis made two free throws for a 113-109 advantage with 1:10 left in overtime.
Ellis then took a daring chance and made a difficult left-handed layup in traffic to make it a six-point game with 44 seconds remaining. He further added two free throws to seal the victory for Warriors.
