NBA Players deserving their first All-Star bid - Part 1
What have James Harden and Jeremy Lin in common other than they are team mates? Both of them may very well get the nod for the 2013 ALL-Star game, the first time it will happen in their career.
This season once again both Conference teams will be dominated by veterans and regular starters with little room for the new comers. Initial polls are dominated by the usual superstars with Kobe Bryant, Rajon Rondo, Dwyane Wade, LeBron
James, Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Garnett being some of the favourites for the Eastern Conference while Kevin Durant, Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, Dwight Howard leading the charts in the Western Conference. And with the limited slots the task is made more difficult
by the abundance of talent in the league these days.
With the quality of players on either side of the conference, there won’t be much room for ALL-Star new comers but injuries to Dirk Nowitzki, Derrick Rose and Steve Nash have opened up about 6 seats on the bench. The system for
selection remains a bit biased; veterans get the call over some of the more deserving players just because they are on the roaster of a much better team.
However the players still have a month to prove their worth. Kyrie Irving may have made it to the list by now if he had been regularly this season but unfortunately injury troubles have kept him on and off the court. If he stays
fit for the next month he may very well be an ALL-Star this year.
Lets talk about the players making strong bids to be first time ALL-Stars one by one.
Tyson Chandler
He won the defensive player of the year award last year but could not make it to the ALL-Star team last year. He may have better luck this year with the New York Knicks flying high and leading the eastern conference with MVP rumours
for Carmelo Anthony, but Carmelo may not be the sole reason the Knicks are in such a good nick this season.
Chandler has developed the Knicks into a strong defensive team not to mention his amazing shooting performances to go along with it. He leads the NBA with a 70.3 percent field goal shooting and is an amazing pick and roll player.
Combine this with this lethal alley oop dunks he is one of the most efficient player on the league this season and should very well get his first ALL-Star bid.
