NBA Playoffs: Memphis Grizzlies win Game-6, 90-88, to stay alive in series against Los Angeles Clippers - Recap
On Friday night at the Staples Center the Memphis Grizzlies, led by their two big men in Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph, who combined for 41 points and were very assertive down low in the post, grabbed a win in Game 6 with the score 90-88, evening up this
Western Conference first round series at 3-3.
Gasol put in a game high performance of 23 points on a 9-16 shooting night. Zach Randolph followed him up with double-double figures of 18 points and 16 rebounds to go along with 3 blocked shots in the game. Rudy g*y and Mike Conley chipped in 13 points
each to help the Grizzlies cause.
Despite having 5 players making sizable contributions on the night, the Clippers effort came up short by just two points resulting in a failure to wrap up the series at home, and now they will have to play a Game 7 at the FedExForum.
Blake Griffin, who had suffered a sprained left knee in the Game 5 loss, cautiously managed his way to 17 points in the night. Chris Paul was also suffering from a hip injury and managed 11 points in the ball game while Eric Bledsoe carried the bench scoring
by chipping in 14 points.
In the opening minutes of the matchup, both sides were evenly matched up throughout. However, from the 4:33 mark in the first, Grizzlies managed to put together an 11-4 run to get some separation from their hosts, they maintained their lead and closed out
the quarter with a score line of 25-16.
The second quarter saw the Clippers trying their best to make their way back into the contest. They were eventually successful in their pursuit twice, cutting the lead to 1. The second time being with only 1:02 remaining in the half but then Gasol responded
with a three point play to close out the proceedings in the first half, making the score 42-38.
Gasol and Randolph scored the first 10 points for the Grizzlies in the third quarter while also holding the Clippers at bay with their defensive work, helping Memphis achieve an 8 point advantage when Conley and Tony Allen knocked down 1 free throw each.
However by the 3:46 mark in the third quarter, Clippers put together a 14-6 burst to tie up the score at 60. The scores remained close for the remaining time and when three quarters of game time had been played, the score were tied at 66.
In the fourth quarter, Clippers came out strongly by going on a 10-2 scoring burst to achieve an 8 point lead. Never the less Memphis, were facing the brink of elimination and were not going out that easy. They responded with a 19-6 spurt to take the lead
87-82.
Even though the Grizzlies added only 3 more points to their tally but they managed to hold on to their lead and despite Randy Foye`s best efforts to knock down to knock down a triple with 3.7 seconds remaining, Clippers came up short 2 points in the end.
