NBA Preseason – New Jersey Nets win 2nd game 108-70 against Haifa Maccabi Haifa
The 2nd game of NBA Preseason was played on Sunday at Prudential Centre, Newark. It saw Haifa Maccabi Haifa up against New Jersey Nets which promised to be an interesting encounter.
New Jersey Nets are considered to be one of the weakest teams going into the NBA season but by winning 108-70 against Haifa Maccabi Haifa they have certainly put their critics in doubts.
1st Period:
New Jersey started slowly and missed a couple of shots early on. Haifa Maccabi were the first ones to score in the period through a Landesberg shot. But, New Jersey responded and their first points came of a three-pointer by Anthony Morrow.
It wasn’t until the 5th minute that the game actually took pace and made New Jersey a little uncomfortable. They fouled the Haifa Maccabi offense and were often punished from the free throw line with three pointers.
At the end of first period, New Jersey Nets took the score to 30-20 after some extravagant playing in the final few minutes. Everything from slum dunks, three-pointers and passing looked inch perfect. Among the dominating Nets’ players during the period
was Derrick Favors.
2nd Period:
At the start of 2nd period, Derrick was fouled and scored once out of the 2 free throws. This period was also more like the 1st one but this time it was the New Jersey Nets that were being over powered by the Haifa Maccabi Haifa.
The Nets were seen scoring from the free throw line whereas Haifa dominated the proceedings while coming up with massive field goals. With the 2nd period close to its end, both teams adopted a more aggressive approach. This resulted in some splendid
turn-overs, passing and shooting.
Out of the huge free throws seen during the quarters and the drives of players, the best play was seen when Johan Pedro scored through a slam dunk. At the end, there was nothing much to talk about as the score was 56-43 in favour of New Jersey Nets.
3rd Period:
The third period was one in which Nets totally dominated the proceedings. They not only managed to score 28 points but also restricted Haifa to 17 points. Nets bagged 2 three-pointers, again through Morrow.
The only player who resisted was Landesberg who drove in that gave him a couple of fouls. Not only this, he also scored about 90% of Haifa‘s points during the period. In the end, another New Jersey dominated period ended with 84-60 in their favour.
4th Period:
In the last quarter, New Jersey Nets continued from where they had left in the 3rd quarter. While further strengthening their defence, they shut Haifa Maccabi Haifa to just 10 points. Some dominating play in the departments of passing, defence
and offence was displayed by New Jersey Nets.
Not only did they dominate the proceedings, they also finished plays in spectacular fashion like that of Johan Pedro’s slum dunk which took his personal score to 10 points. On the other hand, the only commendable thing for Haifa Maccabi Haifa was one low
three pointer by Landesberg.
But, this was all they could manage. In the end, New Jersey Nets won the match by 108-70. The top scorer was Landesberg who managed 24 points for Haifa Maccabi Haifa.
