NBA Recap: Denver Nuggets rout the Charlotte Bobcats 120-80
Denver Nuggets took apart Charlotte Bobcats 120-80 to win four out of five games in the post Carmelo Anthony era. With this 40 points victory, the Nuggets beat their previous best of 34 points win over the Phoenix Suns, this season.
In an event that took place on Wednesday night at Pepsi Centre, Wilson Chandler led the way for the Nuggets with 16 points. Six other Denver players made it to the double figures.
The teams maintained parity in the first two and half minutes play as the scores were tied at 4-4. Then, the Nuggets took over and clattered out a 19-8 run to stretch the lead to 12-23, with just 3:23 minutes left in the first
quarter. After Nuggets full timeout, Bobcats reeled off a 9-2 spurt to bridge the gap, making it 21-25. Nuggets’ Chris Andersen though stung the Bobcats with three successive attempts and put his team in the driving seat at 23-29.
Al Harrington finally finished the first quarter proceedings with a 13-foot ripper. Nuggets led 31-23 at the close of first quarter.
Chris Andersen stood out for the Nuggets by scoring nine points. Matt Carroll made seven points for the Bobcats.
The Nuggets set the tone early in the second section and stretched the lead to 18 points, courtesy a 12-4 run. They continued to pile on the offensive pressure and finished the first half at 46-62. Wilson Chandler scored seven
points for the Nuggets. Carroll added nine more points in the Bobcats total.
Staring at a 16 points deficit at the end of the first half, the Bobcats came out fired up and scored 10 points straight away in the third segment, opening with Stephen Jackson’s jumper, to slash the shortfall to 64-54.
But the Nuggets responded with an 8-2 run, including successive dips by Nene Hilario and Chandler to put up their lead to 56-72 with 6:56 minutes remaining in the third segment. Nuggets ended the third frame with 91 points, while
Bobcats had 67.
After being thrashed by 8 points in each of the first three quarters the listless Bobcats were completely blown away in the fourth. Nuggets outscored Bobcats 29-13 in the final period, to end with a 120-80 win.
Ty Lawson made a double-double. He scored 14 points and provided 10 assists for the Nuggets.
Lawson said post game, "Were playing together and we're winning right now. That's fun for everybody. There's no sticky hands out there. We're passing the ball, getting everybody involved. It feels a lot better when everybody is
happy. The bigs are happy. The wings are happy. Everybody is touching the ball, and that's the way basketball should be played."
Matt Carroll led the Bobcats with 19 points and grabbed two rebounds. His teammate Stephen Jackson was of the view that Anthony’s exit has changed the character of the team (Nuggets).
"They're playing more open, I think they have four or five guys on the court that are aggressive instead of waiting for 'Melo to shoot all the balls. They're playing with two point guards, so they're making plays and everybody
is getting shots. They're not depending on one guy to score."
