NBA Recap: Richard Hamilton highlights the game as Pistons buzz past Wizards 115-110
Richard Hamilton highlighted the game for the Detroit Pistons, even though his days as an elite scorer are almost over. He scored his season high 27 points as the Pistons flew past the Wizards on their own flying broomstick.
The game between Washington Wizards and Detroit Pistons took place at the Palace of Auburn Hills, Detroit, MI. The Detroit Pistons gave defeat to the Washington Wizards on their home ground with a five point lead at 115-110.
Box Score
The game took leaps and turns as the ball kept dribbling under the hands of different players. The Wizards scored 41 rebounds and the Pistons scored 44. The Pistons also highlighted the game with their 15 offensive rebounds whereas the Wizards managed to
grab 11. The Wizards gave 15 turnovers carelessly and the Pistons saved their team by giving only nine. The Wizards took nine fast break points whereas the Pistons took eight. The lead changed 16 times and the game was tied as many as 12 times. The biggest
lead was taken at seven by both the teams. The Wizards made 52 points in the paint whereas the Pistons made 46.
Inactive Players
The inactive players among the Wizards were Josh Howard, Yi Jianlian and Hamady N’ Diaye whereas those among the Pistons were Jonas Jerebko, DaJuan Summers and Terrico White. Both the teams played carefully and none of them committed a technical foul.
Bad defense on part of the Wizards
The experts say that this was a wonderful game on part of the Wizards. The reason that they could not make it in the end was their bad defense and a lot of fundamental breakdowns.
Hamilton’s Optimism
Hamilton sounded very optimistic about his basketball career as he later said that he can play until he is 50. This was a blunt response to the critics who were of the view that perhaps his career is going through its last stages. Hamilton has improved a
lot since he joined the game and he was only averaging 12.1 points in the beginning of the game.
Quotable
"I still enjoy playing this game, and I'm always going to work hard out there," Hamilton said later. "When they need me, like they did tonight, I'm going to be ready." That’s the spirit the Pistons can hang on to for a long time.
Hamilton was there to hit five jumpers before missing some points with just 23 seconds left in the extra period. Later he gave the Pistons a two point lead by adding two free throws to their box score.
Hamilton missed a 3-point attempt that lit up the fire in Charlie Villanueva. It was then that the game changed its course when Charlie Villanueva made his attempt at redeeming the game with 2:16 remaining. He was fouled by Gilbert Arenas and later he completed
his three-point play that stretched the game for the Pistons with 100-98. It was with this spirit that he played the rest of the game and made his season high 11 rebounds and second double-double for this season.
Jason Maxiel played to his maximum ability against the Wizards in his second start as power forward against them. He scored 14 points and five rebounds. The Pistons were highly appreciated for their season high 36 points in the second quarter.
Bad Pass
Gilbert Arenas received many boos as he gave three crucial turnovers at final 40.9 seconds of the overtime. He was the one to make a bad pass out of a double team. He also made the mistake of throwing away an outlet pass to Nick Young. Adding to the misery
of the Wizards he was the one who lost control of the ball in the offensive zone.
UP NEXT: The next three games for each team, in this format. For the Wizards, Tuesday vs. Philadelphia; Thursday at Atlanta, Saturday vs. Orlando. For the Pistons, Tuesday at Dallas; Wednesday at Memphis; Friday vs. Milwaukee.
