NBA Recap: San Antonio Spurs win 40 games defeating Houston Rockets 108-95
The San Antonio Spurs clinched their 40th victory of the National Basketball Association 2010-11 season as they beat the Houston Rockets 108-95 at the AT&T Centre in San Antonio on 29 January, 2011.
The game was exciting, with the lead changing 14 times in the starting 15 minutes alone. DeJuan Blair slam dunked thrice in the second quarter to pull out six points in a frame of three and a half minutes. After that a layup from Antonio McDyess in the 7th minute edged the Spurs over the opposition, 37-36. San Antonio never relinquished the lead after that.
Houston followed the Spurs closely into the final quarter, trailing by just four points. In that quarter, Ginobili shot two 3-pointers and was able to steal a pass of Courtney Lee. The Spurs were in command of the game as they flew past the opposition by 11 points with the Rockets unable to follow.
Houston’s coach Rick Adelman later put light on the Spurs game when he exclaimed, "They have the best record in the league. What do you want me to say? They beat us. They have all the ingredients of a team that's going to be very difficult to beat."
The Rockets Forward-Centre Luis Scola scored 23 points with 10 rebounds and Kyle Lowry added 15 points and dished out seven assists. Houston out-rebounded the winning team 39-32.
Spurs forward Jefferson went 7-for-8 from the field, with 2-3 shooting and hit 2-2 of his free throws. This commendable shooting was the best that came from him this season. He made the best score in the game since his 10 December, 2010 clash with the Atlanta Hawks.
The Rockets’ Aaron Brooks saw his game tumbling with a meagre 3-for-12 in shooting from the field. The player now maintains a 19-71 from the field in the previous six games he has played.
The spurs are the first team in the NBA to reach the 40 wins mark.
The Spurs have won 17 games in a row at home and now face playing the coming nine games on road. So the Spurs are set off for the road journey now. It seems that they are in their full spirit and are ready to attack more teams. However, what is noticeable in San Antonio’s games is that they have lost the last five games on road.
All the five Spurs starters made a contribution in the team’s victory scoring in double-figures. Manu Ginobili scored 22 points on a 7-for-11 shooting run from the field.
