NBA- Rookie of the Year 2010-11
With the 2010-11 season starting in a few months time, the NBA experts have come with many predictions thus far. They have given the standings predicted for the Western and the Eastern Conference, and now here we will be discussing their views as to who is tough and talented enough to be named the Rookie of NBA this season. One of the interesting facts about the two contenders battling it out for this award is that 2010 top-pick John Wall and 2009 main-man Blake Griffin are both eligible for the award and are both No.1 picks of their time.
The predictions are as follows.
John Wall
John Wall is expected to win the title after he secured 48 votes in the voting which was polled by 93 experts. The Wizards have given this player all the support that the young gun requires, and this is the reason why Wall is one of the top contenders for the Rookie of the Year award securing a little more than half of the votes. John is truly an amazing point guard with his quickness, defensive techniques and offensive shots. His attributes without a doubt help him reach the Pro level without delay, and that is why Wall is sometimes associated with previous Rookie of the Years like Derrick Rose and Chris Paul. Furthermore, how Gilbert Arenas plays would also affect Wall’s journey to Rookie of the Year award. Let’s wait and watch whether Arenas hinder him or helps him.
Blake Griffin
Blake Griffin was the experts’ second choice after he managed to bag 23 votes to his name. The 2009-10 season saw Griffin battle the knee cap injury that he sustained. Previously, Griffin played for the Oklahoma, and now is the main competitor for Wall according to many experts. The 2009 No.1 pick is expected to bounce back this season with the best of his form and then give Wall a tough time in the running for the Rookie of the Year award. Griffin’s inclusion in the Los Angeles Clippers team turned things around, and made them one of the competitive teams in the NBA. This is the reason that some of the experts are awaiting his arrival in the NBA.
DeMarcus Cousins
DeMarcus Cousins who played for the Kentucky last season managed to come up with 14 votes. Based on his statistics at the Kentucky of 15.1 points per game and 9.8 rebounds per game, Cousins is without a doubt one of the favourites for the title this season. The only problem that this youngster sees is the fact Cousins is playing in a Sacramento team where he plays a few minutes only. Another reason that might hinder his way is the players that include the likes of Duncan, Gasol and Yao Ming that would stand tall against this player. If cousins manages to come up with the performances that he is capable of then without a doubt this young and talented player would succeed in providing the Sacramento with their second Rookie of the Year in a row.
Evan Turner
Evan Turner, Philadelphia guard having 20.4 points per game and 9.2 rebounds per game comes in at number 4 after securing 5 votes. This player with the style of play that he has is somewhat underrated according to some experts. His summer league performance further cements this player’s position for a coming up as a serious contender for the Rookie of the Year award. The only problem that this star player could see is the fact he would be playing less minutes in a team which already has so many wingmen. Although experts say that it is impossible that a player of his class and talent would be on the bench but for that Turner needs to come up with good and consistent performances.
Keeping the above players in mind, it is now up to the players to come up with their best shows, and for us to wait and see whether they perform according to the predictions of the experts or something else happens.
