NBA Round-up, March 21: Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls and Memphis Grizzlies win (part 2)
Boston Celtics 96 – New York Knicks 86
The Boston Celtics made a ferocious comeback in the second half to overcome the New York Knicks 96-86 on Monday night at Madison Square Garden. The Knicks coughed up a 15 point lead in the second half and allowed the Celtics to
steal the game with a 23-4 run.
The Knicks secured the first two quarters quite methodically. However, the Celtics rallied in the third segment to reduce the first half deficit. They also held the opposition well, restricting Knicks to just 18 points in the frame.
The Celtics outscored the Knicks with a 13-0 run to turn an 82-73 fourth part shortfall into an 86-82 lead. Paul Pierce led the Celtics as he scored the first seven points of the run, including two foul shots, a three point shot
and a floater. In their last three games, the Knicks have scored 17, 23 and 17 points in the fourth.
Kevin Garnett scored game high 24 points and clutched 11 rebounds. He made 10 out of 15 shots from the field and 16 of his points came during the second half. Rajon Rondo had 13 points and 12 dimes for the Celtics, who counted
the last 10 points for a determined victory.
The Knicks lost their sixth game out of seven and dropped to 7-9 since obtaining Carmelo Anthony. On the other hand, Anthony also had a worst game as he took five stitches above the left eye and his team lost the game too. He scored
22 points, but both Anthony and Amare Stoudemire failed to make a field goal during the fourth period. Chauncey Billups added 21 points and Stoudemire ends up with 16.
Chicago Bulls 132 – Sacramento Kings 92
The Bulls brought in their 50th victory of the season as their bench fired along with the front line-up to overpower the visiting Sacramento Kings with a 132-92 at the United Centre on Monday night.
Maybe the turning point was when the Kings visited the Bulls back in 2009 and clinched the game 102-98 as they bounced back from a 35 point deficit in the second half. The Bulls guard Derrick Rose said, then he wanted revenge for
that upsetting rout.
Eight players made it to the double figures from the Bulls line-up. Starting line-up had at least 14 points. Kyle Korver scored 18 points, Omer Asik had 14 and C.J. Watson added 11 points off the bench. Carlos Boozer made 16 points
for the Bulls after recovering from the injury.
Marcus Thornton remained the major contributor for the Kings with 25 points.
Memphis Grizzlies 103 – Utah Jazz 85
Zach Randolph scored 19 points and snatched 13 boards as the Memphis Grizzlies hung tight to their Western Conference playoff spot with a 103-85 triumph over the Utah Jazz on Monday night at FedEx Forum.
Once again the Grizzlies showed their supremacy in the paint, as they outscored the Jazz 66-40 from the paint.
The Jazz was trailing by 15 points at the beginning of the fourth quarter, but they quickly made first seven points to make a cosmetic comeback, making it 80-72. Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins to quickly gauged the situation and
send Conley and Zach Randolph from the bench. The Grizzlies retaliated with a 15-3 run that gave them their biggest advantage of the game at 95-75, before taking the game away from the Jazz.
Paul Millsap led the Jazz with 15 points and his teammate Al Jefferson had 12.
