Charlotte Bobcats 96 - Memphis Grizzlies 82
The Charlotte Bobcats extended their winning streak to three games, by trouncing the Memphis Grizzlies 96-82 at the Time Warner Cable Arena.
Only three of the Bobcats players scored points in double figures. Stephen Jackson scored a game-high 27 points and D.J. Augustin added 18 in the Charlotte’s 14th victory of the season.
Zach Randolph led all Memphis scorers with 15 points while grabbing a game-high 15 rebounds. Rudy g*y, Tony Allen, and Mike Conley each scored 13 for Memphis, who lost their 21st game of the season. Marc Gasol added 10 points and seven rebounds
for the Grizzlies, who have dropped two straight on a three-game road swing.
The first quarter was all about Jackson and Augustin, who led the Bobcats with nine points each, as Charlotte took a 22-15 lead before the second quarter. The Bobcats continued their defensive play into the second stanza and used an 11-2 run to widen their
advantage to 44-31 at half time. After a back-and-forth third quarter, the Bobcats took a 68-57 lead into the final quarter.
Charlotte opened up the final stanza with a 15-4 run, capped by a Jackson jumper, to put the game away for good.
Stephen Jackson told reporters after the game, "Our defence was great tonight. We found a way to get out there and run early. A win is a win and that is something to build on. We didn't let them run their offence they wanted to and were really getting after
it with steals and blocking shots.”
Houston Rockets 108 - Boston Celtics 102
The Houston Rockets snapped a five-game losing streak, by defeating the Boston Celtics 108-102 at TD Garden in Boston.
Aaron Brooks led a balanced offensive display by Houston, as they had seven players score in double-figures. Brooks returned from a three-game absence to score a game-high 24 points and five assists for Houston, who shot 52.7 percent from the field.
Kyle Lowry had a productive game as he tallied 17 points and eight assists, while Chase Budinger ended with 13 points off the bench for the Rockets. Luis Scola registered 12 points and nine rebounds, and Jordan Hill recorded 12 points and eight rebounds
in the Houston’s 17th victory of the season.
Ray Allen and Marquis Daniels posted 19 points apiece in the home defeat. Paul Pierce and Glen Davis netted 16 and 12 points, respectively, in only Boston’s ninth defeat of the season.
The Rockets controlled the game from the beginning, leading 27-22 after one quarter and held a 50-49 edge at half time. In the third quarter Houston played some tenacious shots, and extended their lead to 80-74 after three quarters. The Celtics put together
a 14-3 burst in the fourth to cut the deficit on O'Neal’s slam before Houston began to pull away with the game.
Houston Head Coach Rick Adelman said, "Every time we come here we have people out and end up winning the game. It just shows what you can do when you go out there and bust your tail. After five tough games, I was very proud of the way these guys approached
this game."
Chicago Bulls 95- Detroit Pistons 82
Derrick Rose scored a game-high 29 points, as the Chicago Bulls rallied to their seventh consecutive home win, beating the Detroit Pistons 95-82 at United Centre.
"We finally played defence. In the first half, they were getting everything they wanted by driving to the hole, getting to the line," Rose said. "In the second half, we made sure we got in their way."
Carlos Boozer had 27 points and 11 rebounds for the Bulls, who won their 25th game of the season. Luol Deng contributed 17 points, four assists, and eight rebounds for the winners. Tayshaun Prince did all he could as he led the Pistons with a
team-high 14 points. Forward Austin Daye came off the bench and scored all of his 14 points in the second quarter when the Pistons were in control.
Both teams started sluggishly, but the Pistons managed to make it to the free throw line early, to help build a 25-20 lead heading into the second. Detroit extended their sizzling play into the second quarter, taking a 55-43 lead into the locker room at
half time.
Boozer was the only sizzling player, scoring nine quick points with his jumper to tie the scores at 61 with 4:54 left in the third. However, the Bulls erased Detroit's 12-point half time lead midway through the third quarter. Boozer continued his eye-catching
play in the final stanza. Boozer's jumper gave the Bulls an 86-78 lead with 3:54 left, and Brewer's three-pointer a minute later took the game away from Detroit.
