NBA Special: Charlotte Bobcats win at home to Detroit Bobcats
D.J. Augustin rocked the court with a game-high 27 points at Time Warner Cable Arena, in front of 14,418 basketball fans. Charlotte Bobcats trounced the visiting Detroit Pistons, 105-100. Charlotte interim coach, Paul Silas expressed,
"D.J. [Augustin] was just outstanding. You have to have confidence and he had lost that. The confidence was back tonight for him. He made some unbelievable plays, hit some great shots, and played some good defense.”
Stephen Jackson registered 23 points and pulled down 9 rebounds in the season’s tenth victory of the new-look Bobcats. Tyrus Thomas added 14 points, while Nazr Mohammed contributed 10 points to snap the four-game losing streak of Charlotte. While talking
about his role as a leader, Stephen Jackson said,
"I want the ball. I am going to take the shot and I am going to take it with confidence. I do not mind. If I do not take the shot then I will make the play with somebody else. That's part of being a leader."
Detroit’s, four players scored in double-figures. Charlie Villanueva scored team-high 25 points in the 21st defeat of Detroit. Tayshaun Prince and Ben Gordon scored 17 apiece for the Pistons, who lost second in a row.
First Quarter
The first aspect that jumps out is the pace. Detroit and Charlotte began the game at a crisp pace, using 26 possessions apiece in the opening quarter. The primary reason the Bobcats pulled this one out, was the shooting. Augustin of Charlotte Augustin, leads
all scorers with eight points.
Second Quarter
With 4:09 remaining in the second quarter, Charlotte grabbed a 50-28 lead - - the highest of game.
Charlotte played the second quarter fantastically and held a 16-point lead at the half time, 56-40.
Third Quarter
Once again, both teams played the game with the same velocity and scored 29 points each in the third quarter. However, the host team maintained double digits lead 85-69, heading into the final stanza.
Fourth Quarter
In the fourth quarter, Gordon hit a three-pointer to cut down the deficit by three, while Chris Wilcox joined hands with him in making the score respectable one for the Pistons and had a free throw to get Detroit within 90-84 with 5:54 to go, in the final
buzzer.
Despite the second quarter explosion, the Pistons controlled every aspect of this one, limiting turnovers, making shots in the fourth and playing tenacious defense. With the clock running down, the Bobcats built their lead up to 101-90. The contest turned
into a sizzling one-point game (101-100) as the Detroit scored ten consecutive points with just a minute to go. Two free throws and a dunk shot by Thomas closed the victorious session for Bobcats.
