LeBron James is one player who is never short of words. The self-proclaimed King, who created a fury with his choice of words when he decided to take his talents to the South Beach, was once again the reason of some raised eyebrows on Thursday.
James, however, was more logical this time around as he highlighted the misfortunes of some very good players that are stuck in relatively weak franchises, sighting Kevin Love of Minnesota Timberwolves as the prime example.
Kevin Love is one of the breakout stars of the league this season. Leading the league in both rebounds per game (15.6) and double-double (25), Love is stuck in a team that was languishing at a 6-24 record before entering Sunday night’s game against the Cleveland
Cavaliers.
Implying that it might not be such a bad idea if the "watered down" NBA were to contract, the two times reigning MVP suggested that the league could drastically return to its popularity of the 80’s, if more stars could play together.
"It's not my job; I'm a player, but that is why the league was so great," He said. "Imagine if you could take Kevin Love off Minnesota and add him to another team and you shrink (league).
It seems as if Kevin Love and Minnesota Timberwolves were not impresses by the comments.
Love, who is also scoring at an average of 20.9 points for his franchise, apparently gave a cold shoulder to LeBron’s remarks.
"That was just something he said," Love said. "I didn't really pay too much attention to it. I just figure that when the time comes with the CBA [collective bargaining agreement], the owners and players and everybody involved will make their decision. I
didn't really think much of it."
Love in his third professional year has been the face of the Timberwolves this season. The 6 ft 10” is fast emerging as a phenomenon in the league. At the forefront of the league, both in terms of rebounds and double-doubles, he recently became the 19th
player in NBA history to register a 30-point/30-rebound game. The outstanding accomplishment made him the first player since Moses Malone in 1982 to reach the milestone as he pounded a match winning 31 points and a career-high 31 rebounds in the 12 November
encounter against the New York Knicks.
However, NBA’s prodigy, who led the Timberwolves to a nail-biting victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers Sunday night, echoed James that it will be far more exciting to watch teams that have more than one star player.
"I don't see it happening, but it was fun when you used to watch certain teams that had certain guys, three or four superstar guys on a team," he said "That kind of stuff was cool. I understand what he is saying, but you never know until all the negotiations."
