NBA Special Report: Kobe- an edge over others
LeBron James moving to the Miami Heat makes this season very exciting for the Heat. However, his trade has lead not only to widespread criticism by fans of his ex-team but there is a sense of hatred that could be seen among them. The trade undoubtedly is one of the biggest and Miami are one big powerhouse this season. Keeping this mind, coupled with the fact that he will be competing with other great players, it is time we try to evaluate one of the best players in the business against whom he will be competing. Kobe Bryant the champion right now and LeBron James the future champion, as predicted by some.
To begin with, Kobe is a champion, an award winner, a consistent performer and possesses all the qualities required for a person to be a champion. His journey thus far has made him the most valuable player award and he has been the top ranked basketball player for quite some time now. In addition, let’s face the fact, one who wins championships and piles up performances, is a true winner, and Kobe does it most of the time.
Keeping in mind the recent happenings and trades that have taken place, Kobe wasn’t interested in moving from the Lakers that surely put him ahead of the rest of the others in popularity. The likes of LeBron have suffered a great deal of loss in popularity by moving from a team that coupled with his abilities made him one the Big names in NBA.
Another thing that edges Kobe over LeBron is the fact that he comes up with challenges, and the best part of this being that he is able to deal with them most of the time. Kobe is usually able to come with good quality minutes and at critical moments, that is able to change the course of the match and he is therefore regarded as one of the best in business. This great player is one of those who create an opening and either finishes it in style or assists that usually results in the opponents left standing.
Some regard this as one of the arrogant players in the NBA, however with which some disagree. However, let’s face it, a player of his calibre and confidence thinks that if you shake hands and greet players on court, who are your opponents, it would be rude if you defeat them. This player has barely been seen talking or smiling with any of his opponents. Though not arrogant but as an act of class by abstaining himself from his opponents and maintaining the fear that he does in the hearts of his opponents.
If you want to look at a player who has a craving to have possession of the ball, Kobe is the best example to watch out for. The level of excitement and eagerness to get hold of the ball can be seen from the way he jumps and screams on court. Moreover, after getting a hold of the ball he one of those who doesn’t lose the ball easily and usually manages to come out with something even if there is nothing for the taking.
Another one of his great abilities or dedication to the game is that he not only runs when offense but runs his heart out to reach the defence. His dedication to the Lakers and basketball has earned him first team spots in the All-Star defensive teams. Not only has this, he has had an amazing technique to lock down players like Rajon Rondo, who he recently restricted to almost nothing with the impressive defensive show he put up.
Kobe Bryant admits the fact that some people hate him for who he is, some love him and some expect the world from him. It is the expectations people have from him that he tries to work on every time he comes on court. Not only this, Kobe knows he his responsibilities towards the young team that he has, he fulfils these duties to the fullest being one of the senior players. Kobe himself said that he knows everybody thinks he’s the “MAN” of Lakers and he will without a doubt remain that for years to come.
As it happens with most, he came in the line of fire when he suffered losses in credibility and lost sponsorship but it didn’t take him away from his basketball but made him an even better player. Kobe however, is one of those players who have reached the position he is in through hard work and determination. He wasn’t the Kobe we know today, a Hornet player who didn’t have much to offer, but his tireless work cemented him in the position where he is today.
