NBA Special Report: Young Nick Van Exel shoots Best friend to death
The son of Atlanta Hawks assistant coach Nick Van Exel has been charged with a $ 1 million bond. The 20 years old Nickey Van Exel, named after his father Nick Van Exel was arrested on Wednesday after he surrendered himself to the local police. He confessed
murdering Bradley Bassey Eyo, an old friend and neighbour.
The 23 year old Eyo was shot and then dumped into a nearby river after both the friends were engaged in horseplay with the shotgun. Nickey added that unfortunately, the friends had no knowledge about the gun being loaded and he shot his friend by accident.
However, the aftermath involved is a little suspicious. Nickey has also been accused of theft as a few of his dear friend’s possessions are also missing. The missing items include a pair of sensational Nike Air Jordan shoes, two cellular phones and some jewellery.
After deep investigation in the case, it was found that the gun belonged to Nick’s parents. The murder took place on Saturday when the two of them were playing around with the loaded gun. Nick confessed that he killed the guy by accident. After finding that
his friend is no more he panicked and dumped the body into a nearby river. The gun is still being looked for as he threw it into a creek that is still being searched.
The younger Van Exel has been charged with capital murder and has been jailed on $1 million bond. His attorney Paul Johnson said that the boy’s family contacted him on Tuesday and since then they are sorting the case with the authorities. The case is deeply
moving and tragic as it occurs that both the guys were long time friends and neighbours. A Wikipedia page shows that both of them were best friends. Everyone is deeply moved as they all thought of Eyo as a family.
The arrest affidavit shows that the murder took place at Nick Van’s home. The victim’s body was wrapped in something and then dragged downstairs to the garage. Young Nick then loaded the dead body into the back of a 2001 Chevy SUV and drove off. He arrived
at Lake Bay Hubbard, where he dumped the body into the waters. The police found a gunshot in the victim’s upper body.
Nickey has been bailed and has been moving freely for two days now. He has not made an appearance in court for a plea and the final verdict is awaited.
"It's a real sad situation," Johnson added later. "Emotions are running high, and, obviously, we recognize that some very bad decisions were made on how he responded."
Nickey’s father Nick Van Exel is a former Dallas Maverick player and is currently working as player development instructor of Atlanta Hawks team.
