NBA Sunday Roundup: New York Knicks and Atlanta Hawks win - (Part 5)
New York Knicks 91 – Miami Heat 86
The visiting New York Knicks overcame the Miami Heat 91-86 at the American Airlines Arena on Sunday night.
Carmelo Anthony came off the bench to have a productive game as he scored a game-high 29 points and pulled down nine rebounds for the victors. Amare Stoudemire and Chauncey Billups scored 16 points apiece for the Knicks, who improved their season record
to 30-27. Stoudemire also grabbed 10 rebounds in the victory.
Forward LeBron James did all he could as he came off the bench with a team-high 27 points in the losing effort. Forward Chris Bosh added 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Dwyane Wade finished with only 12 points for the Heat, who have lost two of their last
three games.
James scored 12 of his points in the opening quarter to help the Heat grab a 34-23 lead after just 12 minutes. Miami then managed to take a six-point lead at 51-42, after Bosh hit a three-pointer with less than four minutes to play before half time.
A jump shot from Bosh then beat the buzzer to put Miami ahead by 52-51 heading into the break.Both teams started the third quarter ice cold but the Heat got it going offensively later on and managed to take a 66-65 lead after three quarters.
The Knicks fought hard in the fourth quarter to make the score a respectable one. However, the game then went on smoothly and New York sealed the win against a frustrated Miami team, who lost in the final stanza for the second straight time.
Chris Bosh wasn't disappointed with the defeat as he said, "I don't think we played badly. I think we controlled the whole game. ... We had control of the game. We just didn't execute down the stretch."
Atlanta Hawks 90 – Portland Trail Blazers 83
The Atlanta Hawks won their second consecutive game of the 2010-11 season by beating the Portland Trail Blazers 90-83 at the Rose Garden on Sunday night.
Jamal Crawford had 23 points while Joe Johnson contributed 22 points for the Hawks, who won their 17th road game of the season. Josh Smith added 14 points and 11 rebounds, while forward Marvin Williams scored 11 points for Atlanta, who won their
36th game of the current season.
Andre Miller had a team-high 20 points while LaMarcus Aldridge added 19 points for the Trail Blazers, who lost their ninth home game of the season. The Hawks got off to a terrific start as they held a 19-18 edge after the first quarter. Atlanta then took
advantage of a couple of free throws in the second quarter, taking a 48-36 advantage into the locker room.
Atlanta extended their offensive play to the third quarter and limited the Blazers to three field goals only. The Hawks successfully held a 68-49 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
The Blazers then initiated a vociferous come back in the final quarter and got to within one point of the Hawks. Rudy Fernandez however, came to the Hawks' rescue, making some crucial points down the stretch to secure the win.
