NBA Update: The Boston Celtics are still the best!
Boston Celtics is the only team in the NBA with 17 Championship titles in the history of National Basketball league. The team was founded in 1946 and continues to dominate till now. It nurtured legends like Bob Cousy, Bill Russell, Tom Heinsohn and Larry Bird. However, the team had their fall in the 90’s, when Michael Jordon with the Chicago Bulls reigned through for a decade.
However, in 2000, the team was rebuilt after being picked with stellar players like Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen. The Celtics won after 21 years of break in 2008, after knocking their age-old rivals the Los Angeles Lakers by 4-2.
This year Boston once again faced the Lakers in the Finals but alas lost to them by 4-3, disappointing their fans immensely. Many started to believe the Celtics with their old key players have lost the charm that they once had and will not be able to compete with this year’s champions and newly crowned underdogs the Miami Heat. Critics say they should rebuild the whole team with younger players that are more dynamic.
Nevertheless, this won’t be the case as basketball pundits say, Kevin Garnett, who recently faced an injury has reportedly fully recovered and is ready to hit the gym. People have seem to forgotten the team might consist of aging players but they surely know how to make buckets without even looking. The Celtics might have been defeated by the Lakers, but it was not bad beat, they were leading in the last six minutes of the final round, however, the tables turned unpredictably. Whereas, the last time Miami Heat made it to the championship was in 2006 for the first time and since then have barely performed, and have only managed to win one division title after that.
The Heat’s roster might consist of the top most players but besides Dwyane Wade, the other two have yet to taste a championship. LeBron James made his cameo for the first time in 2007, while Chris Bosh has barely moved to the third round.
Boston Celtics has the second best coach present in the NBA right after Phil Jackson. He knows how to win titles and has chemistry with the team unlike other coaches. He understand what his team needs and Miami Heat supporters are banking on the thought that Riley will surpass his team, however, that can’t happen until the next season, till then Doc Rivers and Celtics are much superior team.
They say knowledge is power, which is another thing the Celtics have which the Heat does not. The Celtics have experience; they have won 21 conference titles and 28 division titles, while Heat has only won one conference title and 7 division titles till date. Boston knows how to dominate and know what to do under extreme pressure; Miami has yet to figure out what to do under such circumstances.
The Celtics still have a reason to hold their head up, since Kevin is coming back after his successful knee surgery. The veteran is the backbone of the team, the energy he brings to Celtics is uncanny. The team also consists of a new relatively new point guard named Rajon Rondo, who has terrorised the court with his swiftness and, shooting skills.
Boston Celtics pride is still intact, their star player Paul Pierce and Ray Allen are still on the roster and are reportedly training hard for the next season. Paul has an ultra intensity to devour any player that comes across him. Ray Allen announced on 1st July 2010 that he’ll be re-sign with the Boston Celtics for a contract worth $20 million, the nine time All-Star winner is a sharpshooter with 19.5 points per game average.
As for now, the Miami Heat fans might boast about the fact of how they’re theoretically the strongest team but history proves it otherwise. Sports Analysts conclude that Boston if not the winners by next year, they will be the underdogs, with their strong consistent veteran backup, they will surely make another run for the championship title next year.
