NBA: Top 3 Prospects For The Cleveland Cavaliers After LeBron’s Departure

Sports writer Brain Windhorst, who is covering for the Cleveland Cavaliers at the moment, described LeBrons departure from the team as a nuclear bomb going off in the city and leaving behind a huge commotion.

James saying goodbye to the Cleveland Cavaliers has left a huge hole in their roster. The team was already statically one of the poorest franchises in the National Basketball League. Dan Gilbert the owner of the Cavaliers said he will make sure his team wins a title before the Miami Heat, which is where James decided to land in his free-agency.

James was called a “Self Proclaimed King” and a “Coward” by Dan Gilbert, while people in Cleveland burnt his jerseys and removed bill-boards and posters of the ‘King’. So what is next for the Cleveland Cavaliers? They’re going to need to fill up the vacant spot left by the ‘King’ with a promising player who could take them to championship.

Here are some potential candidates being considered by the Cleveland Cavaliers experts, who could possibly fill in King James shoes:

The Cavaliers are apparently interested in a Minnesota Timberwolve player named Al Jefferson who plays as a center. Al is definitely an odd one out, as the 6foot 10inch player has slowed down over the years due to several injuries. Jefferson played 76 games last season in which he averaged at 17 points a game. He came to the league straight off high school and was recognized as a stud who was not to be missed out on. He is 25 years old and if his performance remains consistent then he could be a steal for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Another player rumored to be under consideration by the Cleveland Cavaliers is Angre Iguodala. After the Philadelphia 76ers drafted Evan Turner who is also known as the “Villain”. It was constantly being said that the player might just remove 76ers star shooting guard Angre Iguodala.  Evan is an explosive player, and his ability to make his way through and score buckets, caught the attention of every coach in the last year’s draft season.

Iguodala was the No.9 pick overall in 2004 NBA drafts, he has had a stellar career since then keeping an average of 15-5-5 per season. He could certainly fill in LeBrons shoes to some extent, but critics seem to think otherwise and question his work ethic and his attitude towards the game.

Nevertheless he definitely has the potential to become a star in the Cavaliers roster, but the main issue here is the price Philadelphia is asking for Iguodala. Considering the price tag and the baggage that comes with the player, Cleveland should certainly explore other options first.

Danny Granger Jr.  might have been the 17th pick overall in the 2005 NBA draft season, but he has certainly improved over time, winning the NBA Most Improved Player award last year and is widely known as one of the best swingman NBA has to offer. He was picked by the Indiana Pacers and has remained a true patriot since then.

So the real question is, will Granger leave the Pacers and join the Cavaliers, since both teams play in the Central division? Yes he most certainly could as the Pacers tried to ship Granger to the New Jersey Nets for Devin Harris but the transaction could not be completed for unknown reasons. There is speculation going around that the Pacers are still willing to trade him in for Mo Williams who currently plays as a guard for Cleveland.  Although moving Mo out of the team would be a foolish decision as he is the only one keeping the team alive after LeBron.

It might seem like a long shot, but if the General Manager for The Indiana Pacers, Dave Morway, could be proposed a deal according to which they could trade in Jamario Moon instead of Mo, it would greatly benefit the team. Jamario’s statistics are way below average and has not contributed much to the team ever since he joined.

Danny has proved over the course of his career that he is a great antagonist to LeBron James, and this could really aid Dan Gilbert. Danny Granger could unquestionably revive the team’s spirit and lead them to victory.
