NBA: Top 4 forwards of the Millennium
Every 10 years this pattern follows throughout in the NBA; a new decade, a new player, a new star. Some players develop into stars in a short period, some take time and some remain ordinary. Stars dominate and give show-stopping performances stunning the audience around them respectively.
With many different playing positions one of the most dominant and vibrant position is the ‘Power Forward’ in the NBA, so let us take a glance at the top 4 power forwards the Millennium had to offer the NBA world:
Chris Bosh is not only the most famous player out of the free-agency this year but is also the best power forward the NBA has to offer. The young player’s career started in 2003 when the Toronto Raptors drafted him as the 4th pick overall. The stunning forward came to NBA in the same year as one of the most notable players of the NBA. Chris since then has cause an upheaval in the league. He has appeared in the NBA All-Star team 5 times already, keeping an amazing scoring average of 20.5 points per game with an average of 9 rebounds per game. He is one of the most consistent players in the league, with the same scoring average in a regular season. He also was one of the lucky players to play for the USA basketball team obtaining the Gold Medal in 2008 Olympics held in Beijing. Bosh also owns a charitable-organization named Chris Bosh Foundation which helps promote sports and education for the youth in Toronto and Dallas.
Pau Gasol is a Spaniard who came to the NBA in 2001 and was picked by the Atlanta Hawks as the 3rd pick overall. Out of all the players mentioned above he is the only one who knows how it feels to win an NBA Championship. Pau has won 2 back to back championships with the Los Angeles Lakers, who welcomed him aboard only two years ago, despite the fact he is one of the most trusted players of the Lakers already. Pau did not waste time and formed the most talked about duo in the Millennium, with the legend Kobe Bryant. Gasol has kept an astounding scoring average of 20 points per game even before he joined the Lakers, followed by a thrilling assist average of 3.2 with 9.8 rebounds per game. Pau with Kobe have dominated the NBA league with their amazing chemistry.
David Moorer West, who was picked the same year as Chris Bosh as the 18th overall pick by the New Orleans Hornets, has come a long way. Experts say David has the potential on becoming the one of the best power forwards but unfortunately landed in one of the weakest teams in the league. Although David has made it to the playoffs 3 times, he averaged 21.2 with 8.5 rebounds per game in 2008 and 18 points per game with 7.4 rebounds per game in the 2009 season, which is simply amazing for an ill-fated player like him. David stands 6’9” weighs 240 pounds and can manage to hit a 17 foot jump. David was given much deserved recognition in the 2008 playoffs as the Western Conference All-Star. David is undoubtedly the face of New Orleans Hornets and has given them hope to look towards the future after a long time.
LaMarcus Aldridge is a young player who proved to the NBA nation that he can score in and outside the 3-point line and can grab countless rebounds. Although the player has never touched the 40 minute play mark, he has still managed to score almost 20 points in each game. He is the third tallest player in the Portland Trail Blazer standing at 6’11” weight 240 pounds. LaMarcus has improved over the years remaining quite consistent with his game, he is a player who can score in the most unexpected moments, dunking with his back towards the net as if he has eyes on the back of his head. In this year’s playoffs LaMarcus made long strides and experts say he is most likely going to make the NBA-All Star team by next year.
