NBA: Top 5 veteran free-agents of 2010
As the much talked about 2010 free-agency saga might have ended with the majority of big names having found their heaven, there are still a bunch of NBA veterans who have yet to find a home and are roaming about the streets, hoping they will get to sign on a good contract.
Here is a list of the top 5 veteran free-agents that are still on the market:
Allen Iverson a former player for the Philadelphia 76ers, plans on returning back after taking a break to tend to his family. Allen is known for his versatile style and has made a deep impression in the NBA of being a relentless player. He is only 6feet tall but does not let the big players dominate him; in fact he is known to have an aura around him that warns his opponents to remain alert. Although Iverson might have had a stellar career in previous years but before retiring he considerably slowed down. Experts say there is no evidence of any team wanting Allen as of now, or any franchise that is willing to sign him on to a one-year deal which is what he is most likely looking for.
Tracy McGrady is another player who aged quickly over the years and has had numerous injuries which have prevented him from becoming an outstanding player. He is a player who has suffered injuries throughout his career. Tracy has almost injured each part of his body which includes his knee, ankle, back and elbow. Experts say despite his ailing injuries the player has stayed strong and came back ever year to play the game he loves. Latest speculations say the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics are looking forward in recruiting the player, even though he has “injury prone” written all over him.
Shaquille O’Neal confirmed he would be returning to the NBA in the upcoming season. The 37 year old player still insists he has two to three years left in him. At the moment there is no news of any team in the NBA being interested in signing the Hall-of-Famer. Although rumours have been speculating about Miami Heat giving a thought to Shaquille, reportedly they think O’Neal will be a great mentor to their newly hired centre Zydrunas Ilgauskas. However the rumour is quite contrary to the fact that Shaq departed from Miami Heat in 2008 after ending into a dispute with the teams head coach Pat Riley, and his chance of coming back to team is as thin as a stick.
Matt Barnes has been playing for the NBA since 2002 and has managed to hop from one team to another each year reaching a total of eight teams. Matt is considered to be a very good role player and has worked hard to reach that level. He is known for his outstanding defensive play, rumours have it the player might end up at the Miami Heat or Lakers by the end of this week, with a small contract. Experts say the player certainly has the potential and has contributed a lot to all his previous teams.
Antoine Wright did not start his career long ago, but is quite an interesting player to watch. He started off in 2005 after being selected by the New Jersey Nets as the 15th pick overall in the drafting season. After serving the Nets for three years the young player moved to the Dallas Mavericks. Although the player did not get more than more than 16 minutes on the court at the 2008 playoffs, he has a decent field goal percentage of .470. This year he was traded to the Toronto Raptors in a four-way deal. However Antoine still has not been given enough chance to prove his might on the court. The deserving player kept an astounding average of 20 points per game in his college years. Rumours say the player might re-sign his deal with the Toronto Raptors in the following week.
