NBA Trade Rumours: Is Andre Iguodala the anchor weighing down the Philadelphia 76ers?
The latest rumour about the Philadelphia 76ers's roster to hit the news is that of a trade off of their captain and shooting guard, Andre Iguodala. Either the 6’6” Arizonian player is unhappy with the team or he feels that the
“higher powers” have a different plan for him. In any case, Iguodala feels that his time with the organization is running short.
These rumours surfaced after the player talked to a sporting website before Friday night’s game against Miami Heat. He said, "I would love to stay in Philadelphia, but if I'm playing somewhere else, I definitely understand
how that could happen. I know how the business works. You have to be prepared for anything in this league. And I am. It's one of the first things you learn when you get here. Guys get traded on draft night."
The last change made to the roster was in July when the organization signed on rising star Evan Turner as guard and Tony Battie as forward. The Philadelphia 76ers are in the process of rebuilding their organization and given the
young talent they have been bringing in lately such as Jrue Holiday and Turner, it might be time for Iguodala to go. Some have also speculated that the reason for this trade off might just be the fact that Iguodala is just too expensive for the organization.
With not many wins this season, keeping on a player for $13 million a year may not lie in their best interests.
The 76ers haven’t had much wins this year; currently sporting a 3-13 record this season they look at most 15 wins this season at the current pace. Given the record, a change needs to be made soon if the 76ers are to have any hope
of contending in the Eastern Conference.
Iguodala’s recent injuries forced him to sit out five games this season. However, the 76ers won two of those games which brings their record to 1-10 with him playing and 2-3 without. The numbers don’t look so hot in Iguodala’s
favour.
Within hours of this rumour making the news, follow up news were already pouring in with the speculations of who Iguodala would go to. Given their interest in Iguodala last year, one of the top suitors looking to take him are the
Cleveland Cavaliers.
Whether Iguodala is in or out remains to be seen, though one thing is for certain, come trading time Iguodala will be the centre of many trade rumours.
