NBA Trade deadline – Players who should move (Part–1)
With three days left in the NBA’s transfer window deadline and the Carmelo Anothony drama finally reaching its culmination, we can finally focus our attention to the other possible trading developments in the league. Despite the fact that the transfer echoes
have been extremely subdued this fall, there are still a number of players out there that not only could be traded, but probably should be traded.
This is a list of the players who most deserve a change of fortunes before this Thursday’s trade deadline, not necessarily because they are likely to be traded, but more so because they are just good players stuck in bad teams. The players for whom the situation
is ripe to go out and explore the other avenues in the league are:
Kevin Love – Minnesota Timberwolves
Kevin Love is the jewel of the Twin Cities. The 6ft-10in forward, who is in his second professional year, has quickly established a reputation as the best post scorer and rebounder the league has to offer. At present, Love is riding high on a red-hot streak
of 42 double-doubles; two less than the longest streak in the NBA since Moses Malone ran off 44 in a row. In addition to scoring at a prolific rate of 21.1 points per game, Love is also pacing the league on the glass with a momentous average of 15.5 rebounds.
The problem for Love is that he is the lone ranger fighting in his team. While Love has been scorching the NBA courts day in and day out, the rest of the team has been failing to back him up consistently. The result is that the Timberwolves are languishing
at the bottom of the Western Conference with a 13-43 record and are only above the listless Cleveland Cavaliers in the league. Even LeBron James expressed sympathy at Love's plight two months back.
With the Timberwolves sinking fast this season, Kevin Love will have to think out of the box, if he wants to achieve the success which the likes of Dwight Howard and Zach Randolph are enjoying at their respective franchises.
O.J. Mayo - Memphis Grizzlies
On 26 June, 2008, O. J. Mayo was selected third overall in the 2008 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Later that day, he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. And two years on, we can safely say that Mayo’s stay at the club has been a controversial
roller-coaster.
Ranging from the infamous on-flight fight with team-mate Tony Allen, to a more recent 10-match suspension by the NBA on account of his positive test for dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), the second year guard has been in the news for all the wrong reasons.
With everything going awry around Mayo in Memphis this season, a change of scenery could do him a lot of good. There's no lack of interest for the young guard either. With his brilliant ability to guard the ball as well as shoot it efficiently, Mayo is certainly
a hot property. The Chicago Bulls, who are desperately searching for a shooting guard, might be one possible destination.
