After a plethora of rumours circulating around the league a week before the trade deadline those rumours have now become reality with a number of trades taking place a day before the deadline expires.
The Cleveland Cavaliers finally acquired a power-forward to help LeBron James in his quest for an NBA ring. The Cavs traded for Antwan Jamison, who they had been courting for a number of weeks, from the Washington Wizards in a three-team deal which also included the LA Clippers.
The deal sends Zydrunas Ilgauskas' $11.5million expiring contract to Washington from Cleveland. Washington will also get a 2010 first-round draft pick and the rights to Emir Preldzic, who was selected in the second round of last year's draft.
The Wizards will receive Al Thornton from the Clippers, with L.A. getting forward Drew Gooden, who was acquired from Dallas in a trade last week.
Cleveland will also receive Clippers guard Sebastian Telfair as part of the trade.
The Wizards are expected to waive Ilgauskas’ contract and the 7ft 3in center is expected to re-sign with the Cavaliers after 30 days, as per league rules.
The deal for Jamison now makes it highly unlikely Amar’e Stoudemire will move to Cleveland.
Elsewhere the Houston Rockets and Sacramento Kings agreed to a deal which will send Tracy McGrady to the Kings in return for Kevin Martin.
The deal will send Martin, Kenny Thomas, Hilton Armstrong and Sergio Rodriguez to the Rockets for McGrady, Carl Landry, Joey Dorsey and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The teams are now trying to work out a deal which would send McGrady to the New York Knicks, a deal that would almost certainly revolve around Jarred Jefferies and possibly Eddy Curry.
The Chicago Bulls have shipped John Salmons to the Milwaukee Bucks in return for the two expiring contracts of Kurt Thomas and Francisco Elson, further creating more space under the salary cap for next year.
Darko Milicic has been moved to the Minnesota Timberwolves from the New York Knicks in exchange for Brian Cardinal.
The Timberwolves also received cash considerations as part of the deal but still saves the Knicks $1.8 million.
