NBA Update: 1st Half Analysis: Los Angeles Lakers vs. San Antonio Spurs
1st Quarter
Following the ritual of ball throwing, the ball was thrown between Tim Duncan (Spurs) and Pau Gasol (Lakers) with Spurs gaining the possession of the ball with the help of Manu Ginobili. Ginobili initiated the game with a bad pass helping Derek Fisher with
a steal to begin the game for the Lakers. Kobe Bryant initiated the scores with two as Fisher gave him an assist and Richard Jefferson made a three pointer for the Spurs that was assisted by Duncan. The Spurs had a brilliant start reflecting a well equipped
team force.
Bryant and Gasol once again paired up for a turnaround jump shot to make it to 6-3 for the Lakers.
Tony Parker’s jump shot gave the Spurs two more points; however Fisher’s jump shot right after took the Lakers 12-5.
Steve Blake committed a shooting foul for the Lakers at 2 minutes on the clock and George Hill made one of the two free throws allotted. Spurs went 20, leaving the Lakers at 16.
Andrew Bynum scored the Lakers 18 as he made a layup shot and Matt Bonner’s three pointer assisted by Hill fleeted the Spurs past Lakers 27-18.
2nd Quarter
Bonner began for the Spurs with a shooting foul, Bynum made one of the two free throws they were allotted and the Lakers grabbed a team rebound. Shannon Brown made a three pointer shot and Bynum gave him an assist to take further the scores 22-27 for the
Lakers. Luckily, Ginobili missed a three point shot and Brown rebounded the ball for the Lakers that earned them another two points as Blake made a jump shot and Gasol gave him an assist.
Ginobili’s personal foul at 8:48 on the clock earned the Lakers two more free throws that they dunked in free style. The Lakers went 28-29 but Spurs did not let them take the lead and Bonner’s three pointer shot gave them a three point edge over the Lakers,
32-28.
The scores were tied at 34-all when Gasol made a free throw that came after Gary Neal was substituted by Jefferson. The lead kept changing after that, at times it went into Spurs’ hands and at times it went into Lakers.
Bonner’s step back jump shot for the Spurs and then Bynum’s free throw after Duncan’s personal foul gave the Lakers an end of 2nd quarter lead.
Lakers led the Spurs by the end of 1st half 44-42.
