NBA Update – Boston Celtics win 96-92 New Jersey Nets
The Boston Celtics were up against the New Jersey Nets this past Thursday at Prudential Centre, Newark, New Jersey. The New Jersey Nets were a team who couldn’t manage a lot during the last season. The Boston Celtics on the other hand were able to add a
few players like Shaquille O’Neal to their squad.
1st Quarter
The Boston Celtics had a slow start to the match and they couldn’t score for over 4 minutes. The New Jersey Nets were able to have an explosive start to the match when they were able to score 3 times before the Boston Celtics came up with their first basket.
Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce were among the early scorers for the Boston Celtics. Later on in the quarter, Shaquille O’Neal joined the party and scored through a magnificent slam dunk. At the end of the period, Brook Lopez was able to bag 13 points for
the New Jersey Nets. Paul Pierce was the top scorer for the Boston Celtics as he scored 8 points.
At the end of the 1st quarter, the Boston Celtics were trailing the New Jersey Nets with the score on 19-28.
2nd Quarter
The 2nd quarter was better for the Boston Celtics, as they were able to combine on regular basis and also converted chances into baskets.
The success ratio for the Boston Celtics in the quarter was higher than the previous one and they bagged as many 37 points during the quarter. The New Jersey Nets weren’t able to score as many points but still ended with 26 points.
The Boston Celtics was able to score frequently through Glen Davis who was seen flying everywhere on court from defence to the offence. Not only running and scoring but also providing his team mates with scoring opportunities. The New Jersey Nets had no
answer to the strong and well planned attacks that the Boston Celtics were coming up with.
The Boston Celtics came up with a very strong defence with Shaq at the heart of the proceedings. With a players like him in the middle it seemed almost impossible to get. The quarter ended with score on 56-54 in favour of the Celtics.
3rd Quarter
The 3rd period saw both team slow down things and scoring not as many points. Shaquille O’Neal got his name back on the scoring sheet.
Lopez was back in action for the New Jersey Nets as they scored just 15 points during the quarter. The Boston Celtics were able to score 21 points during the quarter. The period ended with score on 77-69 in favour of the Boston Celtics as they dominated
the quarter in the department of defence and offence.
Glen Davis was able to score 18 points at the end of the quarter and combined with other players to put the Boston Celtics in the lead.
4th Quarter
The last quarter of the match saw both teams trying hard to gain the lead. However, in pursue of getting the lead, neither of the teams over did. This meant that they maintained a strong tight defence along with some attacking.
During the course of the last quarter, the Boston Celtics didn’t score a lot and managed just 19 points. On the contrary, the New Jersey Nets were only able to score 23 points in the quarter despite giving all they had.
The New Jersey Nets are one of the teams that are expected to lose a lot games this season. The game ended with the Boston Celtics wining the game 96-92.
The Boston Celtics took the foot off the gas in the last period that resulted in the game being so tight. The score line doesn’t tell the story of the game which the Boston Celtics comprehensively dominated.
At the end of the match, the top scored was Brook Lopez of the New Jersey Nets who scored 23 points. He was closely followed by Boston Celtics Glen Davis who scored 20 points as the Boston Celtics won their 2nd game of the preseason.
