NBA Update: Carmelo and 5 ways to bring glory
It is speculated that Carmelo Anthony will be leaving the Denver Nuggets unless the Nuggets change their roster. However, it should not be forgotten that the same Nuggets team was in the running for the NBA title just two seasons ago. This season, they also put up a good show finishing second best to the Lakers.
The major reason why the Nuggets were left behind in the battle was due George Karl leaving to fight his cancer. Here we will discuss the five trades that accompanied with Carmelo at the Nuggets can win a title for one of the future Hall of Fame of the NBA and can form one of the talented teams of the NBA.
Xavier Henry is still to sign the deal with the Grizz, and one with which he doesn’t seem to be particularly happy. He is an athletic guy and is surely capable of playing energetic quality minutes. However, a player of his liking wouldn’t want to share the spotlight with players like OJ Mayo and Rudy g*y. Added to this is the fact that the small Memphis city can’t offer him much media attention either. Therefore, it won’t be surprising if he wanted to leave. If he goes to the Nuggets, he can form one of the strongest benches of the Western Conference and for sure be one of the contenders from the Western Conference.
Rodney Carney is another player who hasn’t had much fame in the basketball as much as he should have. Rodney would therefore be an achievable target and to sign for the Nuggets with the minimum of amount. For those who don’t know this player, he is one of the most talented players of NBA. This immensely talented player with his skills is a future prospect and surely an upcoming NBA superstar. Bagging a 33% three pointer shooting success, if in future the Nuggets don’t find a swingman, he is the best, the cheapest and the most skilful option.
Given that a team needs talent to be successful, the team also needs some giant figures or you can say big players of the NBA. Players like Pau Gasol in the Lakers, Al- Jefferson of the Utah and the Marcus Camby of the Portland. There is also a chance that the Nuggets will come up with some kind of an offer for the big Shaquille O’Neal in the offseason. Shaq would not only bring a big player in the Nuggets but make the Nuggets roster a huge one. Coupled with loads of experience he has of winning, which the Nuggets don’t have much, this would be a good option to look into. The Nuggets would have to reach deep in their pockets though to bring this superstar to Nuggets.
In the running for the Western Conference, the competition is getting tougher and better day by day. Nuggets need to sign players who put up quality minutes for their hopes in the championship rather than on the hunt for tall, short players. The Nuggets need quality at the moment although size is one factor but it can be neutralized by the quality factor. This has a very good example of Allen Iverson, who can beat any player with type of quality he possesses. The best option for the Nuggets in this regard is to sign Josh Boone. He along with Nene, Martin, Harrington, and Andersen is capable of forming a team like the Lakers and creating a formidable unit on court.
The last move which Nuggets should pull off is to sign Louis Amundson. This move not only would strengthen the Nuggets roster but the deal is possible to pull off with a number of factors. First being the fact that he is native of the area graduating from the Monarch High School north of Denver.
Secondly, the type of player Karl likes, Amundson is one of them. His energy level off the bench is one to look out for. Last year’s playoff with the Phoenix, when he came off the bench supports the above fact. This deal would be cheap and would allow both Amundson and Harrington to play the 3 and the 4.
With the camp a few months away, Nuggets have time to add to their already talented roster. If the players mentioned above are added, it will give them a diverse squad that would potentially be a contender for the title.
