NBA Update: Chris Paul to the Lakers
Chris Paul a young aspiring player has been rumoured to be traded by the New Orleans Hornets to Los Angeles Lakers. Lakers fans seem to be extremely excited about it; however, critics have seemed to voice concerns regarding Paul and how he might be a misfit.
This is quite a compelling argument as Lakers use the triangle method in the offense zone, and it could really hinder Paul’s ability to show off his skills. Some consider Paul as one of the best point guard that NBA has at the moment and muting some of his qualities which make Paul special will be unfair to him and the team in the long run.
Paul is a basketball player who likes to get in and score some points, holding him back using the triangle is going to make Paul ineffective and will only slow down the game. Experts say it’s a prevailing thought that the Lakers and Paul should take under consideration.
Paul is one of the strongest point guards in basketball and a true team player, yet he can win a game all by himself if he wants. Basketball pundits say he is a mixture of Steve Nash and Allen Iverson, as he is an amazing assister with an average of 11.0 which makes him Nash and maintaining an amazing scoring average of 21.9 makes him like Allen.
The Lakers are rumoured to be thriving for a good power forward and new point guard, Paul is the best option for them but keeping him in a set offense will only affect his playing style, as he is a pick and roll point guard. Dictating his every move and putting in a triangle will only trim down his scoring average.
However, Paul is an intelligent player and will surely adapt to his surroundings soon, given that he is a versatile player who can shoot from any angle, and if time asks him to go in and score he can manage that easily too. In addition, the fact that Lakers current head coach Phil Jackson might make concessions if they actually manage to land Paul in their roster. Phil is veteran coach who has 11 championships under his belt as a coach and 2 as a basketball player, and he will know certainly what to do before drafting Paul.
Byron Scott, a former Los Angeles was Paul’s previous coach until he was announced as the head coach for Cleveland Cavaliers in the upcoming season. Byron is considered to be one of the front-runners to succeed Phil Jackson, once he steps down. Experts say that since Byron is now a part of Cleveland, Brian Shaw will most likely grab the coaching reins once Phil retires, and will probably continue with the triangle offense ritual.
If rumours about Phil retiring come true in the near future and Paul actually succeeds to become the next head coach of Lakers. Paul’s chance of joining the team would be much higher because he is known to have a great relationship with Paul and second reason being, Paul is not tied to the triangle tradition.
Paul reportedly was quite upset when the Orleans dismissed Scott, and since then he has demanded to be traded. Hence, the reporters say that Paul is likely to join the Lakers because he hopes that he might be reunited by Bryon Scott when Phil retires. However, that might be not happen in the near future, but Paul’s fans are content and say that the theory of the triangle offense is for one to build upon slowly, and Paul is likely to adjust in well soon.
In Lakers tenure with Phil Jackson, they have always had a great point guard, but not as dynamic as Chris Paul’s. If Paul lands in the Lakers rooster and fits in well, he is likely to take more minutes than their current point guard Derek Fisher. Experts say that the Lakers would be foolish if they don’t grasp Paul, the young point guard who has the ability to attack relentlessly and find open teammates is awe-inspiring.
