NBA Update: First Half Analysis: Los Angeles Lakers vs. Detroit Pistons
1st Quarter
As the game started, the ball was thrown between the starters of both the teams. Andrew Bynum and Gerald Wallace were the players between whom the ball was jumped. Pau Gasol lunged forward to take possession of the ball for the Lakers. As it mostly happens
in NBA, the player missed the first shot that he was trying to pounce. Wallace rebound the ball immediately and resultantly another shot was missed by the Pistons.
The first three points were earned by Ron Artest with 10:29 on the clock as Kobe Bryant ran to give his fellow an assist. Bryant committed a defence foul that triggered a technical free throw from Gordon (Pistons) and scored them their first point.
Bynum dunked to freeze two more for shots for his team as Bryant gave him an assist. That resulted in a layup shot that Wallace grabbed and Tracy McGrady gave him an assist. Bynum took a layup shot for the Lakers and moments after Tayshaun Prince trounced
a jump shot to tie the scores at 9-all. Lamar Odom made a jump shot as Bryant gave him an assist to tie the scores once more at 16.
The Pistons were limited to 19 as the Lakers took a first quarter lead 24-19.
2nd Quarter
(Lakers) Steve Blake bounced on the rim with a three pointer as Matt Barnes gave him an assist to flatter the scores 27-19. Odom’s reverse layup shot edged the Lakers with a 10 points advantage. Richard Hamilton grabbed a layup shot as Rodney Stuckey gave
him an assist to move the Pistons a little more close to the Lakers, 21-29. Greg Monroe committed a shooting foul with 9 minutes on the clock and Gasol took hold of both the free throws provided. Shannon Brown (Lakers) missed an easy three pointer shot and
Barnes committed a shooting foul. Barnes was replaced by Bryant with 8:33 in second half.
Bryant flurried with a pull-up jump shot as Gasol gave him an assist to pull the lead to 33-25. Monroe trounced a layup shot at 7:21 that brought them closer to the Lakers, 27-33. Gasol made a tip shot and Austin Daye responded with a dunk shot as McGrady
once again gave him an assist. Hamilton came ahead with a three pointer and Pistons power forward Charlie Villanueva gave him an assist.
(Lakers) Luke Walton committed a defence foul at 1 minute in second half and Hamilton grabbed a technical free throw for the Pistons to score his eight. He came forward with a three pointer to pull out three points for the Pistons, edging them closer to
Lakers, 41-43. End of second quarter saw the Lakers with a three point lead over the Pistons, 45-42.
