NBA Update: First Half Analysis: Los Angeles Lakers vs. Phoenix Suns
First Quarter
Following the ritual of ball throwing between starters of both the teams the ball was jumped between Robin Lopez and Andrew Bynum.
Steve Nash dunked forward to hold possession of the ball for the Phoenix Suns. (Suns) Vince Carter followed his assist with a jump shot to clinch the very first two points of the game for his team. Marcin Gortat committed a shooting foul that initiated the
first point for the Lakers as Bynum grabbed a free throw. Grant Hill made a jump shot to earn his first two points followed by a missed jump shot by Pau Gasol.
Bryant committed a technical foul and Nash made a technical free throw out of it. Carter’s layup shot along with Nash’s assist gave the Suns a four-point advantage over the Lakers. Artest’s three pointer with 7 minutes in second quarter tied the scores at
9-all. Gasol clinched a jump shot right after him to take the lead into Lakers hands, 11-9. Lopez once more tied the scores as he dived to get a jump shot. The lead was once again in Phoenix’s hands when Nash provided them with a jump shot, 13-11.
Bryant, Gasol and Shannon Brown truncated more points to edge the Lakers in the game. Lakers conquered the first quarter with a score of 31-24, leading the Phoenix Suns.
Second Quarter
Steve Blake started the second quarter with a jump shot for the Lakers, 33-24. In response to that Channing Frye clinched a three pointer for the Suns that was assisted by Mickael Pietrus. Blake made another jump shot followed by a second three pointer fixed
by Jared Dudley, with Frye giving him an assist. Dudley committed a shooting foul that pounced two free throws for the Lakers.
With nine minutes in second half Pietrus reconciled for a jump shot, Dragic jumped to give him an assist, the Suns went to 32-37. Gasol’s technical brought the Suns even close as Frye trounced the technical free throw provided. Dudley made a reverse layup
shot to cover the gap with the Lakers, 35-37.
Dudley’s three pointer fixed at 3:11 on the clock tied the scores at 44-all. Luke Walton dived in to grab a jump shot as Bynum gave him an assist to take the lead into Lakers hands, 46-44. In a response, Nash clinched a three pointer to take the lead into
Suns side, 47-46. This ongoing battle kept fuelling until Phoenix Suns took the first half lead over the Lakers, 50-49.
