NBA Update: First Half Analysis: New York Knicks vs. Portland Trail Blazers
First Half
First Quarter
As per game policy, the ball was jumped between two starters, Marcus Camby and Amar’e Stoudemire. LaMarcus Aldridge jumped in to gain possession of the ball for the Blazers.
Start of game
Wilson Chandler clinched the first shot of the game for the New York Knicks. As a response, LaMarcus Aldridge dunked ahead to shoot a jumper that he unfortunately missed. Camby rebound the ball for the Blazers but he missed the tip shot that could have reprised
them two points. Seconds later, Nicolas Batum rebound the ball again and dished out the first two points for Portland, levelling the scores at 2-all. Landry Fields truncated with a reverse layup shot that was assisted by Stoudemire to take the lead into Knicks
hands. Once again, Aldridge shot a layup shot to tie the game at 4-all.
Ronny Turiaf committed the first shooting foul of the game at 10:10 on the clock. The free throw given was trounced by Wesley Matthews, taking the Blazers, 5-4.
Camby committed a shooting foul for the Blazers with nine minutes in second quarter. The free throw produced was devoured by Turiaf, Knicks going 11-7, taking lead over the Blazers. Aldridge clinched the next shot for the Blazers, taking the scores 9-11.
Raymond Felton dished out a three pointer to edge over the Blazers, 18-11. It was Bill Walker’s three pointer clinched with an assist from Felton that gave the Knicks a 10 point advantage over the Blazers, 25-15.
End of First Quarter
Fernandez clinched the two free throws provided after Rudy Turiaf committed a shooting foul. At the end of first quarter, the Knicks led the Blazers with six points, 29-23.
Second Quarter
Turiaf opened the second quarter with a driving dunk shot that produced a driving layup shot from the Blazers, 25-31. At 10:47, Chandler made a turnaround jump shot that was followed by Patrick Mills’ running jump shot. Moments after Toney Douglas (Knicks)
clinched a pullup jump shot and Mills mirrored the same for the Blazers, 27-33.
Fields made his four points as he dunked the rim with a layup shot assisted by Turiaf. The Blazers still at a 12 point deficit, Aldridge filled in with two points as he made a reverse shot, going 31-41.
Aldridge made an alley oop layup shot that was assisted by Camby, going 33-41. Chandler gave a turnover that Batum stole but Camby missed the attempt after the steal was made. The Knicks who were still leading saw a jump shot by Stoudemire at 6:18 on the
clock, Knicks went 43-35, leading over the Blazers. Stoudemire then committed a shooting foul that gave two free throws to the Blazers, who went 37-43, following a six point trail.
With just 2:46 left in second half, Fernandez clinched a three pointer that was assisted by Miller, Blazers closed in on the Knicks, 46-49. Right after that Felton made a pullup jump shot to produce a five point gap between the teams, 51-46.
End of Second Quarter
Stoudemire clinched a free throw after he missed the first one, going 56-50 over the trailing Blazers, 56-50.
