NBA Update: First half analysis – San Antonio Spurs vs. Dallas Mavericks
The game is being played at the American Airlines Centre in Dallas, Texas and the San Antonio Spurs have led the Dallas Mavericks in both the quarters.
First quarter
Following the American basketball ritual, the ball was jumped between Wilson Chandler (Mavericks) and Tim Duncan. (Spurs) Brian Cardinal jumped forward to gain possession of the ball for the Mavericks.
The game started with a jump shot made by Caron Butler and assisted by Jason Kidd which gave two points to the Mavericks. Duncan followed with a turnaround back shot for the Spurs and right after that Chandler grabbed a jump shot for Dallas, assisted by Cardinal.
Scores were tied on four-all when DeJuan Blair made a tip shot for the Spurs.
Butler made a driving layup shot as Kidd pulled out an assist to give the Mavericks a three-point lead over the Spurs, 20-17.
Tony Parker gave a driving jump shot that tied the scores between both the teams once again, 24-all.
End of 1st Quarter - Spurs: 29, Mavericks: 27
Second quarter
George Hill’s running bank shot gave the Spurs a three-point lead over the Mavericks in the opening minute of the second quarter. Jason Terry lunged forward to make a pull-up jump shot for the Mavericks right after him and Neal pinned a three pointer.
Terry missed a driving jump shot and Manu Ginobili rebounded the ball and clinched a three pointer which gave the Spurs a ten-point lead.
Gary Neal trounced another three pointer and the Spurs went a raging high 42-29.
Shawn Marion dived in to make a jump bank shot to earn his four points and the Mavericks went 31-45. Still leading, Duncan made a layup shot as Parker gave him an assist with 6 minutes to go. Chandler committed a shooting foul for Dallas and Duncan dished out the free throw provided.
Matt Bonner committed a shooting foul for the Spurs and Marion pulled out both the free throws. Kidd attempted a three pointer with only 2 minutes left in second half with Terry’s assist and the scores were 43-50 with Spurs still leading.
Ginobili grabbed a three pointer assisted by Parker and the Spurs led the Mavericks at the end of second quarter, 53-46.
