NBA Update: Free Agency- winners and losers
The free agency period this year was one the most discussed topics in the sport’s history to date. Mainly because of the fact that Lebron James, the star player is now a part of Miami Heat. The Miami Heat’s trades this season has been big by bringing in players like Chris Bosh and Lebron James. The signing of these players sent a clear message to all other teams that the Miami Heat, this season would not only be a contender for the Championship but also start the season as the favourites.
The Miami Heat’s move of bringing in big profile players has resulted in other teams to step up too and move on players, this resulted in teams bringing in new players and some resigned the ones that had their contracts expiring but still something to offer to the team. This move by other teams made a positive impact on the teams. Teams improved their roster responding to the “BIG” trades, also to match the teams like L.A Lakers, Orlando Magic and the Miami Heat. Some in doing so turned to become winners by successfully building a strong line-up for the up coming season, through the free agency while some decisions turned out against some teams.
The Miami Heat turned out to be the ultimate winners in the free agency, as they got good price by releasing the unhappy Michael Beasley, which enabled them to bring in some experienced players like Žydrūnas Ilgauskas and Udonis Haslem. This adding to the top free agency deals, they secured that of Lebron James and Chris Bosh. These deals not only add to a superstar roster of Miami but also improved their chances of holding the flag of the Champions once again. With this, the Miami Heat has an impressive roster and they are still looking to add more decent players to their team. This will further strengthen the squad, so as to not be totally dependant on the newly paired superstars Lebron James, Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade.
The Chicago Bulls stand between the line of winners and losers in the free agency, as they made some smart moves by signing Carlos Boozer, when Chris Bosh decided to move to Miami Heat. The Bulls left with the money they had reserved for signing Lebron James, on making more good offers and offered contracts to the two left best shooters. The money left by Lebron James choosing Miami over the Chicago Bulls means that The Bulls still have a handful of amount to spend and add players and challenge for the Eastern Conference.
Dallas Mavericks also came up with amazing signings and ones that puts them as a one of the winners in the free agency. The mavericks were able to resign the experienced Dirk Nowitzki and Brendan Haywood, to ensure that they were still in the running for the race for the Western Conference Finals.
The mavericks also signed Tyson Chandler. Tyson Chandler on the best of his health imposes a double threat to the opponents. The mavericks impose a serious threat to the current NBA champions, Lakers with the pick of Dominique Jones from the NBA draft. The mavericks with these picks not only add talent and youth to their squad but also made good and impressive deals to cement themselves in a strong position in NBA and show their intentions that they are here to win as well and would match the likes of Lakers and Heat.
The Milwaukee Bucks became another big winner of the free agency without having to spend much and without being in contention to sign the big names in NBA. The biggest or the best deal in the free agency they managed to come up with and one which held great importance for them was of resigning the star shooting guard, John Salmons.
They made two other good and commendable deals and gained two great players namely Corey Maggette and Drew Gooden. The addition of these players further strengthens the Milwaukee squad, which previously was a team with the potential to progress to the playoffs. Now the team is even stronger.
Now the big question that remains to be answered is that whether the trades that took place would produce results. If yes, then the trade would surely classify the team as the winner of the free agency this year.
