NBA Update: Kings Trounced Nets with 5 points lead, 86 - 81
Finally, the Kings put down the burden of the losing streak with a crowd of 11,766 witnessed a 3-point shot by Beno Udrih with 3 seconds to go in the game. It brought an end to the Sacramento Kings' six-game losing streak with an 86-81 win over New Jersey
Nets at ARCO Arena, Sacramento.
High-flying Players
Tyreke Evans scored led Sacramento with 20 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds. Carl Landry scored 15 points, Beno Udrih had 12 and Luther Head added 10 for Sacramento. DeMarcus Cousins had eight points and 10 rebounds.
New Jersey was led by Kris Humphries with 18 and 10 rebounds. Anthony Morrow added 17 points and Travis Outlaw contributed 13 points for the Nets.
Game story
The game was not really good enough, but even then, the Kings headed the game due to better defence. The Kings had taken away the game with their 100.4 percent defence rating, 13 points better than their league worst rating of 113.4 before this game.
The other amazing point about King’s defence was that they played without fouling.
The offense was the really ugly part of the game though. For one, the team took a really long time to get into their offense, even longer than usual.
The First Quarter started out terrible, the game was started in a slow manner. Morrow and Humphries both had 12 points in the opening half to put the Nets in front 46-43.
In the second quarter, the game was accelerated as compared to the previous session. New Jersey used a 19-4 run in the second quarter to erase an eight-point deficit. Landry had 10 points for the Kings. At the end, Nets managed to lead the first half of the
game by 3 points.
The third session was again slow one; fewer points were scored by both teams as compares to second quarter. However, Kings handled to cut down the deficit and led the third half by single point.
The game was sped up in the final phase. King’s Landry broke a tie with a bucket in the lane and fellow Donte Greene followed with a steal and dribbled the length of the court for a dunk, entertaining and bringing the mob to its feet for one of the few times
and giving the Kings an 80-76 lead with 3:16 left.
Outlaw at Nets end caught fire and made a jumper following a timeout to cut the Kings' lead to 83-81 with 27 seconds remaining in the game. But with the shot clock running down, Udrih made a 3-pointer to make it 86-81 with 3.4 seconds left.
Turning point of the Game
It is a fact that the Kings had been missing that big shot, particularly the big 3-pointer for much of the early season games. Luckily same was not the situation this time, as 3.4 seconds remaining and balancing a two-point lead, Sacramento
guard Beno Udrih struck with a 3-pointer to cement a Kings win.
Shining Star
Kings forward Carl Landry is averaging 18.8 points in his last four games. On Friday, he scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Quotation
"It does feel especially good for a big shot to fall for our team. Making a big one like that is the best thing in the world," Sacramento coach Paul Westphal.
"We all know what we have to do now. The man thing to do is play defense,"
said Sacramento guard Tyreke Evans.
