NBA Update: Kurt Rambis breaks silence on Minnesota Timberwolves coaching situation
Kurt Rambis has been the Minnesota Timberwolves head coach for the last two seasons. Rambis came in to take charge of a roster in disarray and oversaw its transformation into the youngest in the league. Minnesota now have some
quality players at their disposal and also have a chance to bring some more firepower in this years’ draft.
However, the Timberwolves lack experience in the team and it has shown in the last two seasons. Under Rambis, Minnesota won just 32 NBA games. They won only 17 in the 2010-2011 season, which was the worst record in the league.
The Timberwolves General Manager David Kahn has been visibly upset over the poor performance of the team. At his end of season conference, he refused to guarantee that Rambis would retain the job come next season, leading to rampant speculation the Kurt Rambis
will indeed be fired.
Kahn has since not talked on the subject with the media a lot and now it seems he hasn’t even spoken with the head coach. Rambis, tired of being given the cold shoulder by the GM for months now, has finally spoken about the current
awkward situation he faces,
"Everybody has reasons for why they conduct the business in the way they want to conduct their business," Rambis said in. "If you're asking me if that's what I would do, no, that's not how I would handle things. But everybody's
different."
The message from Rambis was simple, let him go or ensure that he will stay; the state of limbo he has been kept over the last few months does not seem to have gone down with him too well. Not sure of what to make of Kahn’s silence,
Rambis has seemingly carried on with the job. He was there for looking at the young talent pre draft and he attended a session where seasoned free agents showed off their skills.
It was a hard thing to do, knowing that he will most likely not be the Timberwolves head coach once the season starts. However Rambis says he doesn’t have much option,
"The way I see it, I'm doing my job," Rambis said. "I'm still the coach of this team until something happens otherwise. So I've got to be watching for talent."
Even the players from the twin cities franchise are not sure about what the future holds. One of the Timberwolves players that came in during Kurt’s reign, Anthony Tolliver, said there isn’t much that could be done at the moment.
Anthony said Rambis was a good coach, but if he was replaced the players will just have to work hard for who ever came in next,
"Hopefully we bring him back," Tolliver added. "But if they don't, I have to respect that decision and move forward. It's a business."
