NBA Update: Larry Brown has resigned as Bobcats coach, Paul Silas takes over
One of the greatest coaches in the NBA history Larry Brown has resigned to work as a coach of Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday. Brown’s premature departure is another hang up in his well travelled career. He spoke against his players, charged himself and left
the team with a news release in traditional Brown’s fashion.
The owner of the Charlotte Bobcats, Michael Jordan announced the news of his leaving, a day after fourth straight defeat. Jordan said that he met Brown two weeks before and discussed the matters to improve team’s performance. They got together again after
practice session and both agreed that the team was not up to their expectations. They both also had the same opinion that change was essential and would be good for our team, Jordan added.
70 year old Larry Brown had been facing series of letdowns and now being divorced after coaching the franchise for two sessions. Paul Silas, who was an ex-coach of the Charlotte Hornets, will be directing the team on temporary basis for the remaining season.
Paul Silas record of 355-400 in the NBA has made him the most winning coach in the history.
During current season, the Bobcats basketball team has figures of 9 wins and 19 defeats. The Bobcats side was being beaten in three games by above 30 points ten days before losing the last Tuesday match under the supervision of Brown. The reason why he had
been upset for few weeks and couldn’t reply instantly upon his cell phones messages. On the other side of the story his agent, Joe Glass is quite optimistic about Brown’s future and said that he will hopefully be back on the bench soon as he has good power
and strength.
Larry Brown has a record of winning above one thousand games in the ABA and the NBA, since commencing his professional career as a basketball coach. Brown is one and the only coach who has head eight different teams in NBA history and head the two different
NBA franchises as their coach in the same season. He is also special among coaches because he has triumph the titles of NBA Championship and NCAA National Championship. Brown was the only inducted coach in the Basketball Hall of Fames who has headed both college
and professional basketball teams in his career.
The Bobcats GM Rod Higgins refused to comment on the details of Brown’s resignation and contract payment issues. Higgins said that he decided to make contact with Silas late Wednesday and now after joining Silas as a temporary coach the situation seems OK.
He said the situation provides a prospect to see Silas abilities as a coach and how he will bring the team to a certain level.
Jordan said that the decision was quite hard for both of them to make, but it was needed and he is very obliged to Brown for what ever effort he did for the team. Brown will remain an advisor for the team, Jordan added. Interesting thing is that he wrote and
publicized a letter to inform his intentions to the Bobcats fans that he wants his team up high. Jordan also said; as he told the media in March that the team is at his first priority and he will take every possible step to make his team the winner.
It is to be noted that Paul Silas was out of the league since 2005 but he was really admired being a coach of Hornets, when he trained the LeBron James team in Cleveland. Higgins was quite excited and said that the side won’t move with Brown who followed common
script in his career. Brown’s tactics were based on swift turnarounds and then typically nasty divorces. He was confident on his team’s abilities and now it has a chance to get back on track.
