NBA Update: Los Angeles Lakers overshadow a milestone night for Ray Allen
Los Angeles Lakers blemished a milestone night for Ray Allen as the two-time defending Champion surpassed the shorthanded Boston Celtics 92-86. On the night, Allen eclipsed Reggie Miller’s record of 2,560 3-poniters in the first
quarter; becoming NBA’s all time leader in this respect. His contentment however faded away in the second half when the visiting squad made a strong comeback for the victory. Kobe Bryant scored 20 points of his 23 after halftime turning the table on the C’s.
Both the teams now tie up 1-1 in the season meetings.
The night was filled with exciting turnarounds and some great moments. With a landmark achieved by the superstar in the first quarter, the home team managed to acquire 7 points lead. Ray Allen’s two 3-pointers in the first period
became the highlight of his career surpassing Reggie Miller’s historic record of most 3-pointers by a player.
"It seemed like it was slow motion for me. When I got the ball and let it go, it felt so good, that once I let it go I knew it was good. It was definitely a magical moment." Allen stated on his shot to accomplish NBA most 3-pointer
field goals.
The Celtics continued their momentum, leading with 8 points as the game progressed to the first half. However the Lakers retaliated incredibly in the third quarter and outscored the Celts by 27-15 in the period. Lakers escalated
a sturdy defense restricting the oppositions to score. The final period depicted great resistance from both the teams however the visiting side hung tough. Lakers restrained the home team from slashing their deficit throughout the final period as they took
revenge of their last meeting when Boston defeated them at their home court.
It was an important day for Lakers and they definitely finished it in style. Lakers now stand at the second spot in the Western Conference with 37 wins.
On the other hand, it has been a difficult week for the home team as nearly half of their line-up has been struggling with injuries. They do lead the Eastern Conference with 38 win and 14 defeats still, however tonight’s trounce
has opened up the odds for Miami to snatch their spot.
Celtics need to overcome their fitness problems quickly and regain their momentum before they face Miami Heat on Sunday.
