NBA Update: Memphis Grizzlies sign Rodney Carney to 10-day contract
The Memphis Grizzlies have signed veteran Rodney Carney to a 10 day contract due to the injury to their small forward Rudy g*y.
g*y’s left shoulder has been partially dislocated and he is expected to stay away from the basketball at least a whole month and approximately 13 contests. His shoulder is scheduled to re-evaluate by doctors in four weeks time,
but there are very little chances that the Grizzlies' power forward will return this season.
Grizzlies General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Wallace announced Rodney Carney’s 10 day contract on Monday night and confirmed his arrival in Memphis.
The former University of Memphis star the Rodney Carney will be playing in the Grizzlies starting rooster against Denver Nuggets in Denver on Tuesday. This is the first game of Grizzlies after the busy NBA All Star Weekend.
Carney will be present at the next five games Grizzlies have scheduled to play against the Denver Nuggets at Denver, Minnesota Timberwolves at Minnesota, Sacramento Kings at home and the San Antonio Spurs at San Antonio. And a
game at home against Spurs two days later. Rodney Carney’s performance in these games will be deeply observed as whether he will able to extend his contract with Grizzlies.
The 6 foot 7, small forward’s youth, size, and 3 pointer shooting skills with considerable defensive ability are the key reasons the Grizzlies have considered him the best option in the Rudy g*y’s absence.
Rodney Carney has played four-year at the University of Memphis. And now He is making a return to his native known as Bluff City. His career at Memphis University had a huge impact on his game. He averaged 5.0 points per game with
shooting average of .421, 45 of 107 per game during his University days.
The 26 year old, Carney has played 25 games for Golden State Warriors in this current 2010-2011 season. His averaged remained five points per game and 1.9 rebounds. But with the Warriors, he also reached at the top of his career
when he shot a career high 46 percent from 3 point range. Golden State waived Rodney Carney on January 04, 2011.
Carney was Selected 16th overall 2006 NBA draft. He started his career at Philadelphia 76ers. Soon he was traded to Minnesota Timberwolves in 2008.
Before the start of this season he signed a one-year contract with Golden State Warriors.
This is the fifth NBA season of Rodney Carney’s career. His career average remained 6.0 points with 2.0 rebounds per game and .422 shooting in all the 297 games and 48 starts for Philadelphia 76ers, Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden
State Warriors.
