NBA Update: Mike Brown favourite to land the Los Angeles Lakers head coach job
Even though no one can fill the gap which was created after the Hall Of Famer Los Angeles Lakers Coach Phil Jackson decided to call it quits, however the franchise seems to have found the best man available for the job. After nearly
a month of frantic search, the Lakers have narrowed down their attentions towards Mike Brown.
A National Basketball Association (NBA) official, who does not hold the authority to speak publically stated that the former Cleveland Cavaliers coach Brown has been offered a deal by the Lakers to carry on the responsibilities
of the coach.
If Mike does not accede to the agreement with the team, which will earn him somewhere between $4 million to $4.5 million per season for the next three years, the Lakers are expected to turn to Rick Adelman, who was the former coach
of the Houston Rockets.
Jerry Buss, Lakers’ owner had said on Tuesday that the franchise was “very close” to fill the vacancy for a coach.
“Obviously, we have to select somebody who has a reputation that players would be happy with. But to ask a direct player to select a particular coach, that’s general manager territory. That’s out of the player domain." Jerry said.
Although, the team management was considering the assistant coach Brian Shaw who also had the endorsement of the legendary Kobe Bryant however the Lakers are more focused to acquire the services of Brown, who had five successful
years at Cleveland during the LeBron James era. Despite of a marvellous tenure with the franchise, Cavs parted ways with the 41-year-old Mike after the 2009-2010 season after the Eastern Conference semifinal loss against the mighty Boston Celtics. Brown joined
a sports channel as an analyst after that and is still working for them.
Brown was honoured with the NBA’s coach of the Year award in 2009 after spearheading the Cavaliers for a record of 66 victories and only 16 defeats. Mike was quite impressive in his last season with the Cleveland when he topped
the 60 win mark once again. Brown was not the only person who left the team in 2010. The prolific forward LeBron James, who was coached by Mike, also took his talents in the Miami Heat, in a much traumatized episode. The Cavs suffered after their departure
and dropped down to the second worst record in the league during the 2010-2011 regular season.
During five years as the head coach of Cavaliers, Brown finished with a brilliant record of 272 wins and 138 defeats. Mike is definitely one of the best leaders in NBA and has the capability to lead Lakers convincingly in the upcoming
seasons. However it all depends on whether both the parties can reach to an agreement which will be revealed in couple of days.
