NBA Update: New Jersey Nets take down Atlanta Hawks, 107 – 101 (Recap)
New Jersey Net trounced Atlanta Hawks by a 6 points lead (107 – 101) at Prudential Center, Newark. Sum of 13,010 fans witnessed the victory of the home team. The Nets extended Atlanta's losing streak to three games while ending their own slide at the same
number.
High – Flying Players
Brook Lopez led New Jersey with a season-high 32 points, 2 assists and grabbed nine rebounds. Devin Harris scored 27 points, 9 assists and 2 rebounds. Shooting guard Anthony Morrow “A-Mo,” contributed 13 points, single assist and 4 rebounds for Net.
Four players of Hawks scored points in double digits. Shooting guard–point guard, Jamal Crawford scored 21 points, clinched five rebounds, three assists - - came off the bench to lead the way for the Hawks. Josh Smith added 20 points, packed by 3 assists
and 7 rebounds. Joe Johnson (Swingman) added 16 points, 8 assists, and 6 rebounds. Al Horford had 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Game Story
New Jersey Net headed the first quarter of the game, 31 – 21. Lopez scored 15 of his total 32 points in the first quarter of the game.
Nets extended the lead to 51 – 43 by the end of second quarter of the game.
Before the start of the fourth quarter of the game, the Nets were leading by 70 – 67.
Hawks accelerated in the fourth quarter and tied the game at 93 – 93 with a late five-point run. The game was been extended to an overtime of five minutes due to tie.
Lopez gave the Nets a 95-93 lead within the first sixteen seconds of the overtime.
Lopez, Harris and Morrow combined to score the Nets’ 14 points in the overtime.
With the clock running down, Harris played a 3-point Shot and confirmed the victory of Nets, 107 – 101.
Turning point of the Game
The lay-ups from Lopez and Harris, and a free throw of Lopez uplifted the Nets by five points in their first three possessions of the overtime. After the contribution of both player - -the Hawks did not get closer than three points.
Rising Star
Power Forward Derrick Favors, scored seven points, grasped four rebounds, two ugly jumpers and provided tenacity inside the stadium.
Anthony Morrow’s Achievement
Nets guard Anthony Morrow hit the first of two consecutive 3-pointers midway through the fourth quarter. With this 3-pointer he moved into number second on the NBA’s all-time 3-point accuracy list behind former Chicago Bulls’ sniper Steve Kerr.
Inactive Player
Terrence Williams said he was 100 percent physically, but was placed on the inactive list for continually infringing team policy. Nets head coach, Avery Johnson said that he would not be available in the upcoming match against Boston also.
