NBA Update: Oklahoma City Thunder down Dallas Mavericks 99-95
Star of the day, Kevin Durant scored a brilliant 28 as he helped Oklahoma City Thunder beat Dallas Mavericks 99-95 in their own backyard- AmericanAirlines Centre in Dallas, Texas.
The game which lasted for over two hours, witnessed more than 20,000 fans.
In addition to Durant, Jeff Green contributed 16 and Russell Westbrook added 15 to help Oklahoma conquer a four-point victory over the Mavericks.
Field goals
Oklahoma shot 47 per cent from the field and the Mavericks were heated up enough to shoot 46.8 in response. The Mavericks trampled 30 per cent in three-pointer attempts whereas OKC was just 26.7 in the same. Mavericks outscored the Thunder 75-65 in free
throw attempts.
Tyson Chandler scored in double figures as he shot 14 points and grabbed 18 rebounds that included 12 offensive ones. Shawn Marion scored 25 points, Jason Terry contributed 19 and DeShawn Stevenson and Jose Juan Barea added 14 each to the box score.
Highlights
The Mavericks had a groundbreaking beginning with Marion going for a driving layup shot that was assisted by Terry. The two players combined to hook up two points for the team.
Green missed a turnaround jump shot that Chandler was lucky enough to rebound for the Mavericks. The Mavericks had the lead and edged the Thunder to 8-2 in the first ten minutes.
The Thunder were deliberate to get their hands on the lead but the Mavericks did not let them. At 8:43 on the clock and the ball with Thabo Sefolosha, the player received an assist from Green and both the players made a shot that gave OKC a one-point lead.
OKC went 60-59, never to relinquish after that.
Durant committed a shooting foul at 7:38 and Chandler grabbed both of the free throws provided. The Mavericks did not settle down at that and kept close to the OKC Thunder but Serge Ibaka, Durant and Green thundered up the last quarter to dig in deeper and
take the lead which lasted until the end of the game.
