NBA Update – Oklahoma City Thunder win 97-93 against Charlotte Bobcats
Wednesday, 6th October 2010 saw Oklahoma City Thunder up against Charlotte Bobcats at the Crown Coliseum, Fayetteville. It started slow but as the match progressed, both teams settled and came up with some good performances.
1st Quarter:
Thunders were the first to score and that too through a spectacular Kevin Durant slam dunk. Bobcats responded and scored 5 points in quick succession with all of these coming from Boris Diaw.
The first one was a field goal while the other a perfect three-pointer. Bobcats were able to pile up some good and effective shooting that led to them scoring a few more times during. They mostly scored via three-pointers as Thunders maintained a tight defence.
Jeff Green dominated the play for Thunders as he bagged a few three-pointers and helped his side score 33 points in the 1st quarter. On the other hand, Bobcats scored 25 points.
2nd Quarter:
During the early part of 2nd quarter, the play was mostly dictated by Tyrus Thomas for Bobcats. For Thunders, Durant, Westbrook and Green showed impressive performances.
In their hunt to take the lead, both teams suffered due to weak defences and hence a lot of baskets were made. Coupled with this were the frequent fouls that occurred. Thunders scored 30 points during the quarter whereas Bobcats were able to come up with
28 points.
At the end of 2nd quarter, the score was 63-53 in favour of Thunders.
3rd Quarter:
The 3rd quarter actually proved to be one of the technical battles where both teams went to the basics. They switched to defensive mode and didn’t press on the attack too much. Ensuring that they come up with strong defences, both teams came up
with occasional attacks.
During the course of the quarter, Bobcats scored 24 points while Thunders managed 22 points. The most notable player for Bobcats was Augustin, who remained at the heart of their every move. Not only did he score regularly but he also was involved in some
extravagant plays and passing. The Thunders' share of play was once again shared by Durant and Green.
The quarter ended with 85-77 in favour of Thunders. This promised an exciting final quarter with the Bobcats only 8 points adrift.
4th Quarter:
The last quarter proved to be the most intense of all the quarters as both teams formed brick wall defences that seem to be non-porous on most occasions. The level of intensity could be seen from the fact that only 28 points were scored.
The Thunders put up 12 points mostly through Serge Ibaka. With his three-point shooting to slam dunk, Ibaka showed it all. On the other hand, Bobcats scored 16 points mainly through Derrick Brown as he was able to score 4 times.
In the end, Oklahoma City Thunder won the match with 97-93. Their top scorer was Green, who scored 25 points while Charlotte Bobcats' top scorer was Tyrus Thomas, who scored 16 points in the match.
